Low Budget Rashies

Its late, I have no life to attend to. I've browsed through all the pages of G and E as well as GnE Reviews, and I've come down to 3 kind of Rashies.

XF Gear-Simple, cheap, good. SS-30, LS-35
Nogi-Cheap, simple, don't recall seeing a review. SS-25 LS-30
Sprawl-It's SPRAWLS Ffs, but a bit more expensive. SS-35.50 LS-38.50

I am planning to buy two, so which should I buy? I have a slight beer gut, and I'd like something that doesnt gush it out like a damn muffin top. I'm 5'8, at about 149 lbs. Which size for the above 3 companies should I order? Thanks guys.

The Sprawls are going to be loose fit -- do you want loose fit or do you want tight fit? Personally I've got a gut and a half and don't give a damn, I much prefer the tight fitting stuff.

I have two Sprawl loose fits, and while they were great when I was self conscious of my body, I don't like them as much now since they can ride up, they can get fingers caught while pummeling in the clinch, and they're not long sleeve.

My new fave is the Ouano rash guard, which is normally stupid at $45 but has been on sale at BoomersMMA for like $30 I think. Hella bargain there, it's a very nice rash guard (I have the short sleeve version).

Another thing to consider is a sports brand 'compression shirt'. These don't make you pay a $10-20 premium for saying "Tapout" or "OTM" or "Sinister", and athletes of all types were them. Nike, Underarmour, Reebok all come to mind, and their shirts are more like $25-35 instead of $40-50. And if you have a sporting good store nearby you can check them out.

I'm interested in the XFGear rashguard and have ordered one, I'll write a review when I get it in.

I really think Nike makes the best rashguards on the market. I had mine for 4 years, no problems whatsoever. Quality construction at $20. They are often on sale for like $10 too. Its worth looking into.

What makes a "Rashguard for grappling"? Given that lots of people still use T-shirts, any type of compression shirt, especially a long sleeve, is a step up. I wear UA long sleeve compression shirt and they work really well, in fact a lot better than a lot of "grappling rashguards" with labels all over them that peel off in thirty minutes of rolling.

Nike, RBK, and UA make great compression shirts that work wonderfully well for grappling, and without the "logo tax".

The stuff I've seen differentiates for season. For example, UA has their HeatGear, ColdGear, and I think something in between called ActiveGear or something like that. Their HeatGear stuff is very cool and light. Their ColdGear stuff is what I use during winter training, but the reality is that sweat + cold == brrr no matter what.

My Mizunos are in between, way too damn hot for summer training and not as good as the ColdGear during winter, but nice the other six months or so.

I believe grappling rashies are made to last longer. And I've been in Sherdog long enough to know that Nogi and Sprawl make quality gear. I just wanted to know other's opinions on the options I had as well as sizing.

only view I have so far is a nice nogi, and a cheap walmart one I just bought. the nogi has two seams, and is double sticked, the walmart has one seam and single sticked. I ripped the rap off, and caused a tear in the side, so the durability is crap. I'm getting my mom to sew it back.

it should be ok for training, but I should really buy the quality stuff from now on, just wanted to see hoe walmart brand was but you know, lol.

Ross for all my rashguards. Get them for $8 to $15. You gotta spend time looking though.

All 3 you listed are great rashguards. I find myself never using my Sprawl ones anymore though. I like the xf gear the best, it's the thinnest and is very durable, I have 1 I've been using for a year with no problems. The Nogi rg's are a little thicker and also very high quality.

My only complaint about the xfgear is that they are tough to remove once you are sweaty.

If you don't want your gut noticed then definitely go with the sprawl. For your height and weight I'd say a medium would be perfect.

Hmm...Not sure if I mind gut showing or not. I've seen this big guy in my old gym witha nice beergut, and he doesn't mind. His fists were like bricks though. One thing I was worried about was how LOOSE is the Loose grappling top? I wouldn't want it loose like a damn t-shirt. Looking really for something fit, but roomy.

It's pretty loose, it hangs very much like a T-shirt.

I have a couple Nike rashguards and I'm about to order a couple of XFGear rashguards. Both of my Nike rashguards are pilling but haven't ripped yet luckily.

I think I will get a nogi and a XF gear. Now, for t-shirts, I buy Large, because they usually shrink a tad. A medium is kinda perfect for me, until they shrink. Which size should I buy for nogi and XFgear?

Since most rashies are synthetic, get the appropriate size and assume no shrinkage -- so get medium. And since they're tight fitting anyway, even if it's a little small it shouldn't be an issue.

Buy a quality RG. man they are the shit! I didn;t even realize how helpful they are.

everyone in class was soaked from sweat, and I felt real good and fresh. I wore a t-shirt over the nogi RG and my shirt was bone dry! not a drop of sweat got to it! and I felt nice and cool.

I want the nogi charcoal with the rasberry logo, but they only have medium and XL in stock. I currently have the large which is usually my size.

should I get an XL I mean it will still fit good since its a tight fit shirt anyways.

The more you train the more you realize it doesn't matter what rashguard you're wearing. They all get the job done.
