Louis Smolka returns to action on Dec 4th against Vince Morales on the Aldo vs Font card. Excited to see a Hawaiian fight before the end of the year now that Brad Tavares is injured. Smolka always been an exciting fighter and been around for a while. Glad to see him back in the "big show" on what is going to be a sneaky good card. I expect this going to be a real scrap. I know Louis turned down this fight originally due Morales cousin actually being one of his main training partners. Though as a true professional its happening. Now here is some sweet chin music.

Wow good for Smolka. He goes from a fight that he's lined up to lose by finish to a winnable fight.

I remember when Smolka was a good prospect, time flies. But he fought and lost to

Moreno
Borg
Elliot
Kenney
Nicolau
Schnell

Unfortunately, he might be good but not quite good enough against better fighters. It's not a knock against him, but I guess life can be a bitch like that. Those are good fighters, and he probably won't be able to crack that ceiling.
 
For a small island, they sure keep producing good fighters. I mean, I guess Smolka probably isn't one of the top fighters from Hawaii, but pretty decent himself.

He was champ at 125 before him and Russel Doane moved to UFC. He had some success and was actually one fight away from a title shot at one point. Things happen though. Glad to see him back and at 135 even though its probably one of the most brutal divisions right now. I know he has plans to fight into the top 10 next year. Dec 4th we will see where he is. Just know he is glad to be back and healthy

Was one of the top 125 prospects the UFC signed back in the day. Tough as nail and has only gone to a decsion in two of his wins. Always goes for a finish. Also one of the nicest kids there is. Really wish that O malley fight would have happened but glad braddah Kris got that fight because it changed his life.

If he does win, tell him to not take a fight with Davey Grant, Valiev, Barcelos, Shore, Yanez, Guitirez, Arce, O'Malley.

No matter what happens, 15+ fight career in UFC is something to be proud of, imo.

I just don't think he will be quite able to get himself past the barrier that seperates him from top guys and the middle of the pack, but hope I'm wrong!

We will see. A lot of us never see what is going on in a fighters life. They get some success invited to train at bigger gyms or camps and lose that work ethic. They start battling injuries. Just all sorts of things happen that cause adversity in a career. One of the hardest things for a fighter to do is have adversity get cut or released and sort their crap out and fight their way back to a larger promotion. I know he got offers from Bellator and ONE. He wanted to be in signed to zuffa though and he made sure he did what he had to do and get things right in his life to get back there. I know he is taking this seriously and i know hes been training hard. He knows second chances in this sport are rare third chances basically dont exist.
 
Ya, Morales is cousins with Ricky Simon. Ricky trains a lot at Team Oyama, so they've all been careful to make sure there's no cross training Vince, but they're all professionals and good guys, which is why the fight is happening

I just think he has some holes in his game where I think he will get outstruck by better strikers, and outgrappled by better grapplers and guys are so good nowadays.

I think that was the right thing he turned down Bellator and ONEFc. I know lots of people shit on UFC, but everything equal, I think UFC is way better. You fail at Bellator and ONEfc, you are nowhere left to go. But if you have a decent success in UFC, then you are still somebody and people know you and so on.

I mean look at Guida, never close to a titleshot, but he had a hell of a ride and a career.

It'd be great if Smolka can carve out a career like Guida can. Not the best, but tough as hell and give a good fight to anybody.

Yesah, yea he trains with Ricky so there was some concern with Louis just because of the family connection. I know they have been joking with Ricky a lot though about him being one spy. Like you said they are all professionals and this is a great card and great exposure for both of them. I see this fight competeing with Aldo and Font for FOTN.
 
I really feel this is going to be a great card. Really happy Louis gets to do his part in it and rep the 808
