I'd say its more because of the fact he's so egotistical and self centered. He never praises his opponents or shows much respect plus the stunt he pulled against Penn, lol. Not to mention his safe style.

Not really. His training partners say he's quiet and good mannered. I remember watching one of his seminars and he seemed like a pretty good guy.

A fighter being unlikeable has nothing to do with his performance in the ring.

it has on this site. a good fighter is often seen as a lesser version if he's unlikable or boring. a recent example is the majority scoring Rampage/Mo for Quinton, which is absurd. Rory is seen as a never-will-be for the same reason, his wins over Jake, Maia, Nate and Penn come second.
