With Matt Brown's win over Erick Silva, his win streak advances to 7.
Although this may very well increase as some may say that Brown needs to fight another 1-2 top 10 guys before finally being a legit contender for the title.
From memory, the last time this happened was with Thiago Alves (quote silly thread title) this is understandable considering how stacked the WW div is.
Then there's guys like JDS who also had to win 7 in a row before finally getting a shot at the title (completely ridiculous considering how shallow the HW div is at the moment)

Of course we are all aware that the UFC is entertainment first & a sport second, as your win streaks don't mean shit unless you're marketable/popular & don't really need to accomplish diddly squat to get a shot at the title (eg: Lesnar, Hardy, Sonnen)

I'm not gonna do any more research into it, but does anyone know any other fighter/s who have had to go through an incredibly long win streak within the UFC before finally getting that coveted shot at the title?

Fitch had 8. Cain, Machida and Gustafsson had 6.

Teixeira was on a 20-fight win streak going into the Jon Jones fight. Only 5 in the UFC and the rest were scrubs... but still impressive.

Gray Maynard had 8. And the Edgar trilogy raped his soul and his career took a nosedive afterwards. Tragic story

JDS had 7 and I would say he had the best streak before a title shot.

Fitch. Hendricks had a lot as well before getting a shot.

Yeah, that was a serious streak! Alves had 7 with wins over Hughes, Koscheck and Lytle.

He was given a huge fight against Condit.

But he got injured.

He needs to fight a decent fighter before talk of a title shot, his streak is decent but non of those fighters are top ten.

Sotiropoulos was in the same spot Matt Brown is now with 7. He needs a step-up to show if he deserves it.

How many fighters get a Title shot after having 0 wins vs Top 10 Ranked opponents over an entire career?

I don't know what this has to do with anything. Chael earned both Anderson fights by winning number one contender fights. The Jones fight, not so much, but it was off the heels of earning two title shots prior.

Hardy had seven straight wins, just like Matt Brown before he got a title shot. Four straight in the UFC and won a number one contender fight against Mike Swick, when there were no other contenders. So I'm not sure what the crying is about in these cases.

This post proves that win streaks don't mean much, mostly because fans like you don't care much about them.

How is that Brown's problem though? He was even supposed to fight Carlos Condit, but got injured.

He's devastated seven guys in a row. The UFC puts him in these kinds of fights and he delivers. Why should he win 7 straight in super exciting fashion and then start over completely against guys who haven't done that at all?

Renen Barao he was on like a 30 fight win streak..

JDS had to beat

Werdum
Struve
Cro Cop
Yvel
Gonzaga
Roy Nelson
and Shane Carwin

To get his title shot.......it's so damn impressive.

Only 3 of those wins are worth mentioning.

That's good. Three solid wins. But the "streak" thing is overblown.
