Watching his fight with shields right now on fox sports and while he won i cant help but think this guy displays some of the worst fight iq ive ever seen in the cage. He kept taking shields down only to sit in his guard (a dumb idea for anyone) and in every fight ive ever seen of his he stands motionless in front of his opponent. Even after magny started tagging him in their fight he would just stand right in front of him. Has this guy ever heard of footwork? Jesus

He won the Shields fight. His leglock attempt against Magny would have been a better example, everything went downhill since he lost that position.

Yep one of the worst for sure...
He's huge.
Heavyhanded.
World class Judo.

He alway's try to overpower guy's...
(with a suspect gas tank to make thing worst)

I'd say Tate had some pretty dumb plans before. Also that dude who hung onto a leglock with 2 hands while his face got pummeled in. Also Akiyama has had some questionable gameplans.

i dont disagree that he won the shields fight but the strategy he chose to use seemed pretty dumb to me. Shields almost had him in a guillotine at the end of the fight because hector just kept taking him down and laying in his guard rather than let him stand, he couldve easily KO'd him imo

It's pretty bad. He uses zero footwork because any unnecessary movement will make him gas harder then he already does lmao

Well then he would be welcomed around here with open arms then wouldnt he?

My vote goes to Palhares for worst fight IQ ever... though there have been other dumb examples, usually of really good grapplers trying to strike w/good strikers that have bad takedown defense.

Kampmann made some dumb decisions in the cage.

I always thought that Kampmann was pretty terrible. Thiago Alves has had some derpy moments, too.

Then there's Guillard... Not sure his problem is low fight IQ, but the end product is still stupidity.

I always go with Melvin Guillard for this award, but Lombard is up there.

he doesnt seem that smart overall - great athlete and fighter though

Lombard's normally got pretty good fight IQ and I don't think the Shields fight is an example of bad fight IQ at all. Lombard dominated Shields and even out grappled him. When he gave up top position to go for a leg lock attempt on Magny is a good example of terrible fight IQ, he had a 10-8 first round and was winning round 2 and had dropped Magny not long before he went for the leg lock.

Jorge Gurgel, BJJ black belt that always wanted to strike with everyone.

Shields is not easy to KO.

Strange thread to make only a week after JDS vs Rothwell.
