Colby Hugginton's case is a prime example of the UFC allowing a fighter who they perceive as marketable, to jump the line in terms of competition, and get to the top without ever truly proving himself . Here we have a situation where Colby is in a position to challenge Woodley for the title. But what exactly did he do to get there?
He only has 2 finishes in the UFC, against 2 guys who are both .500. ( Jonathon Meunier 1/1 LOL, and Max Griffin 2/2). His Last 4 fights are all decisions.
Then the UFC allowed him to skip over Till, Thompson, Usman, all guys who they know would have knocked Colby's head off, in order to get him into a match with the weakest top 10 opponent they could find for him, Maia.
He outstrikes K1Maia LOL, and then gets ranked #3?? Then they match him up with RDA, a very skilled fighter, but a guy who fought at 155 for a long time and was clearly outsized.
So, because he outstruck Maia, and pushed an undersized RDA against a cage for 25 minutes, he gets to challenge Woodley for the title?
Cliffs:
Apparently Outstriking K1Maia, and desperately pushing a smaller RDA against a cage for 25 minutes gets you a title shot in the UFC now.
Ultimate Fighting Circus at it's very best. But we all know how these UFC manufactured hype trains end....
