Hey guys, I don't post a lot, but I lurk every day, and post when I think I have something relevant, but tonight I just want to give myself a pat on the back  lol I was a four sport athlete in high school (football, wrestling, track, baseball), came to college and still ate like a four sport athlete and didnt do shit, I literally gained over sixty pounds in six months and have been depressed about it since, well that was...almost 8 years ago now, and I have been lifting my ass off for a while, and walking my dog about five miles a day, tonight I finally got the balls to do some real long distance (for me) stuff and ran a mile, and walked another, i feel like ass, but it's a good ass lol anyways, wish me luck and continued motivation!

Good luck and good job. What was it that was the final straw for you & made you decide to get off your butt and do something about it?

well, it was a combination really, lol I just got hired as a police officer and have to go to the academy in August (as long as I pass the psych eval) that was pretty much the last straw, then I also downloaded some good music lol amazing how much that helps...but in all seriousness, I'm nowhere close to where I want to be, but I'm a lot better off than I thought I would be going in, I could have done quite a bit more, but I didn't want to over-due it and get hurt or just be WAY too sore to hit it tomorrow. but tomorrow I'll up the laps and keep plugging away, I should probably also mention that I am still walking the dog five miles a day, and lifting at least three times a week, punchin the heavy bag a few times a week, and trying to swim when I can, hopefully start getting that sweet figure back soon! haha

That's cool. And I had to laugh at ashford's comment too. Only cause my ex-stepdad is a cop and he was always really fat.

Good start man! If the academy in Nebraska is anything like other states I would keep up with the jogging/running and start doing a good amount of push ups...most academies are doing lots of both. enjoy!

Thanks, yeah like I said, I had been working out off and on for a while, but it was the possiblity of the academy in August that made me finally say "ok time to start running" lol thanks for the advice,

and someone up top mentioned diet too, I've also cut out fast food completely, (actually i've just quit eating out, other than special occasions) and I quit drinking pop (soda to some of you lol) a few months ago, now I'm just trying to pack as much protiens, fruits, and veggies as possible, also my parents just got my gf and I a grill, so i've been grilling a LOT of chicken breasts, delicious! hehe I don't know how I ever lived without a grill, but I plan on taking measurements and weighing myself tomorrow, and probably taking before pics, then I'll do it again the last day of May and I'll keep you guys updated. Ive been spending a lot of time in the FAQ's on this forum, great stuff in there! any other advice you guys want to throw my way is well appreciated too! haha also as a former wrestler, i have an ingrained hatred of bathroom scales, but don't want to spend the money (or have the room) for an upright scale, can you guys recommend a decent one for an ok price? thanks in advance

edit: bye "one" i meant bathroom scale, not upright...looked goofy when i read back thru it, just wanted to clearify

lol that's ok, judging by your attitude, I'm sure the feeling is mutual, no problems! hehe

also, I'm going to steal an idea from Dave Chapelle here, I thought I loved donuts cuz they were delicious, and sugary...now I find out that I am predestined to love donuts cuz I'm gonna be a cop? what I want to know is where are all the bastards that hate donuts? everyone I know loves donuts...maybe THEY'RE the odd ones!! hehe

Edit: also thanks for all the encouragement guys, hit the pool for some lap work tonight lol although as bad as I am at swimming it's a lot more like floundering around til im exhausted haha, but I figure I'll get better if I keep going

I do not like donuts because I saw them getting made once and I saw a roach fall into the batter. I left the donut shop after that and yes I did tell a worker there. Good luck at the academy.

lol that would make me not like about anything...at least for a while! thanks for the luck though! hopefully I get the chance! still waiting on background stuff...I did hear a rumor that they have changed the PT final from 2 miles to 5, so I have a lot of work to do, but I should be a lot better off by the end of August, we just got our second biggest snow storm of the year (on may 1st?!?!?) so it's slowing down a lot of the cardio I want to do as my dog HATES cold weather lol but still doing what I can, and haven't cheated on my diet yet! so-far so-good!

haha. funny enough I hate doughnuts too!

but in all seriousness... good luck on your career. do some good things to reverse non-criminal pedestrians from hating cops... ie. the guy with a crack in his windshield, who has an unpaid seatbelt ticket for which his license got suspended.... when you run into that guy, dont impound his car and then as he's walking away after reasoning with you not to take him to jail because he's going to work.... dont say "hey do you wanna take this car seat, it's a 300$ fine for transporting a kid with no carseat" NO, YOU JUST IMPOUNDED MY CAR YOU DUMBFUCK! AM I GOING TO DUCKTAPE THAT SHIT TO MY BACK?

    for your conditioning....
    Multi V's
    Fish Oil
    Vinnegar
    Run
    Lift

good luck, dont be a cocksucker!

LMFAO, that's a lot of good advice! i'll try to remember that...as for the end of the post, Im taking a multivitamin, CLA, Hydroxycut, running, and lifting, and walking the dog...what would fish oil and vinnegar do for me? I read up a little about fish oils and the omega 3 stuff, but still don't really get what it does for ya, and the vinegar I can't find lol sounds intruiging! hehe, let me know

edit: nvm on the fish oil, Found a lot of good info, gonna pick some up immediately...and I see vinegar is supposed to be a good thing for recovery and fat loss which is awesome, but I can't find anything that says how you're supposed to take it, I actually like the taste of vinegar ( i know im weird) so the pills won't be necessary, but how much how often type of thing would be helpful, thanks
