I didn’t live with them. They had a beach house that was only used 3 or 4 times a year. It was near my place of employment so it made sense for me to live there.

Yep, poor people should just use the free accommodation near their work that everyone has available. It really is a terrible decision for people to pay for their living costs when they don't have to.

I didn’t need the accommodation. I eventually left and rented a $700/month condo in the city when I switched careers. It just meant switching from blue to black label and eating out a little less.

Poor people should stop doing drugs and having babies at an early age. Nobody has come up with a legit argument on why my tax dollars should feed these people. My situation has nothing to do with theirs.

Here’s some ideas...before I’m blasted.

I’ve been homeless,foster kid, parents were dead beat heroin addicts so I know a little about the ebt game..proudly I have never got it but that’s my choice..I’m all for it....with regulations...ahem(clears throat)


1) all ebt cards are name matched with persons name on actual card, must show I’d when using as to verify benefit recipients are actually using benefits...
This would cut down on resale for cash,which is a lot more common then people think, I grew up in the hood,everyone does it.


2) Specific list of items that can be used with ebt.
Like w.i.c. Program.
Basic dairy,meat,grain,vegetables,/fruits...

Don’t gimme no shit about urban peeps not having access to fresh fruits and shit.. we aren’t in a 3rd world country and Walmart’s are every where..they also happen to be on every fucking city block in America..

Eliminate use of ebt at liquor stores.

3)limit time frame.

Reasonably a down trodden mother or father should have some kinda motivation to get right after six months...after that your just milking it.

(Except for during recession,that’s shits different )

4)require a once a week ,two hour community service ...give a little back...gasp ,work for it...two hours isn’t much and it would filter the deadbeats from the needy.

You do these four things and you’d see some drastic changes in the system.


Healthy eating,less liquor stores in the hood,less scammers,less welfare queens.

Would be a logistical nightmare. I might be okay with something where discretionary benefits were slightly reduced but replaced with the option to receive healthy food. It's expensive to eat healthy, though mot as expensive as it is to eat shitty fast food all the time, in the long run. The real thing preventing change is local businesses abetting benefit fraud with stamp use on vices. There are plenty of stores in low-income areas that probably depend on that revenue.

I'm just in awe that conservatives are putting forth the idea that the government should tell people what they can and can't eat. And then this overtly communist idea of actual rations for American citizens.

Truly mindblowing.

The government is not telling people what they can and can't eat. People can spend their own money on whatever fucking food they want. From Kobe beef to dog food you can eat whatever you want.

When it comes to our safety net and using tax payer money to feed people, things are different. Handouts are not rights, they are privileges. If your choice is to eat what tax payers have funded through the government, or not eat at all then people will eat if they are hungry. If they are unwilling to eat the food given by government, then they obviously have other options and don't need assistance to eat.

A woman I worked with got EBT. She got roughly 600 dollars a month. She had a new Honda Accord that she could afford. She talked about how excited her kids were when she got them a 70" television. She somehow could afford to buy a Starbucks coffee EVERY day.

I just don't understand why she was able to get my tax money to buy food when she could afford to feed her family.

I believe our public safety net should be for the truly needy.

It is our responsibility, because the system we enjoy actually depends on all the participants' consent, and like I said it isn't capable of supporting everyone. The land belongs to all of us, so everyone gets a share of the production from its use. That's the deal. Otherwise, let's don some loin cloths and fight for survival as nature intended.


Maybe it will help you cope if you think of it as a short term loan for local business investors. Poor people can't save anything, so they are actually an efficient way to distribute money to areas where it is most needed, like the rural deep south or Kentucky.

1- Community service for a mother of (fill in the blank) may have to leave children unattended for those hours.
