Since the NSA was found in 1947 it has always had all the possible powers. Right now the agency interacts with and supervises about a dozen of different spying programs. Some of them are practically legalized (ICREACH for example) the others won't ever be even named.
So when I read this I honestly got terrified. If the NSA gets more powerful than it is now, it will have all the possible powers of influence in the world!

No but not surprising that Jeb wants to expand NSA's ability to spy on people. Many former members of George Bush and George W Bush's cabinet is filled with people who run companies that get huge contracts from the NSA.

Thomas J. Ridge https://www.ridgeglobal.com/what-we-do/

Michael Chertoff http://www.chertoffgroup.com/
Michael Hayden http://www.chertoffgroup.com/

Micheal Chertoff does not even cover-up the fact that he has been getting contracts from the TSA, Homeland security and NSA. He openly brags about having a new type of scatter gather handheld x-ray for inspecting people walking into buildings. Something along these lines.

Ridge is a little less blatent about his contracts and deals with Government agencies.
Many more of course that continue to cash in post cabinet position.

Never mind the friends of the Bush's getting nice government payouts.

Of course this is not unusual for Government officials to go work for Government contractors but these guys are tapping into billions of dollars. These deals much like Halliburton 32 billion dollars over the Iraq and Afghanistan wars is the benchmark for these insider no bid deals. Of course defense contractors get a lot bigger contracts but these are big insider deals.

Yeah, I understand. But what are we gonna do now?! If this power freak becomes our next president we'll be put under the giant magnifying glass. So I'd prefer him not to be elected... euhm:rolleyes:

That is scary stuff, hopefully he doesn't get nominated for president.

George HW Bush, Jeb's Daddy of course, was once head of the CIA. Of course Jeb is a strong supporter of the Big Brother State.

Governments need more power. We don't give them enough. This freedom thing is over rated anyways.

Name one GOP candidate who has credibly laid out a plan to REDUCE the NSA's powers.

Heck, name one Democrat one!

Bush also criticized private technology firms for using encryption to make it harder for their customers to be surveilled. "It makes it harder for the American government to do its job while protecting civil liberties to make sure evildoers aren't in our midst," he said.

I will never understand this attitude. Keeping data secure is good for everyone. He probably wants backdoors aswell while FSB is cross referencing their haul from OPM hack and Ashley MAdison.

"evildoers"

think when anyone says that they sound like an 8 year old.

think they're pretty evil themselves spying on innocent people with the help of the corporations. yet the whistle-blowers are seen as the enemy as well as those pesky evildoers.

If elected Jebbo ought to hire Hillary as keeper of secrets.

Does Jeb also refuse to say Muslim terrorists also. I haven't paid attention to him.

Well, there are none (to my knowledge). Which says a lot.

Ok. I typically vote for a Republican because of my Christian beliefs and I like less govt. But it seems like republicans want more govt also. I only know that I like Dr. Carson the man so I'd probably vote for him if the election was today.

Where are you politically JD?

Considering I'm German, it's difficult. If I lived in the US, I would vote tactically. If I lived in a clear-cut state, I would likely vote for a third-party candidate. Living in a swing state, I would probably vote for the Democrats, believing it to be the lesser evil.

Personally I hardly ever voted for big party candidates, but we also have a different election system.

None of us are significant enough for them to care about what we do.

I didn't notice that you were in Germany.

Republicans small govt? Can you name one republican president that ever reduced the size of govt?
