This guy Rob Rhinehart was tired of the amount of time, money and energy he was spending daily on food. So he dived into the books to find out what the body really needs to survive. After many weeks of trial blender mixes he developed Soylent: an all-in-one nutritional shake.

Since his start he has been living on this shake instead of ''real'' food (sometimes he eats a bit of ''real'' food, but not often).

His shake ''Soylent'' contains everything the body needs, protein, carbs, a little fat, vitamins and minerals. According to Rob the body observes no difference whether the nutrients are coming from a powder or are coming from

Fascinating, I'm going to read up on this; I'm curious to see if it is legit.

I wish we had a tablet or something that covered nutrition for the day - I find eating annoying, strange as that may sound.

My fiance grandfather got throat/mouth cancer in his 50's and in under 10 years was left with no tongue or ability to eat real food. So before cancer he ate food after he only ate 2-4 "shakes" for sustenance. Basically they're like pretty basic protein shakes with vitamins/minerals. Anyway, he hasn't died of heart disease or got cancer again and its been 30 years roughly since being on a liquid only diet. Make of it what you will. People can survive off it but i wouldn't call it ideal or optimal.

There is a diet called the "Velocity diet" that is shake heavy. They only recommend it for a short time though, don't know why. T-Nation is big on it.

Because your intake of many nutrients is shit, and your energy levels are crap, probably.

Didnt check the link, but first thing that comes to mind is what about fiber?

As long as you're getting the right nutrients in the right amounts, I don't know why you couldn't theoretically do it for the rest of your life. I think it would be extremely difficult, for me at least, psychologically. I like eating real food too much. Even eating super clean would be a lot more enjoyable than living on shakes 24/7.

The V-diet has the person taking fiber pills, flaxseed, and superfood to add all the nutritionals. Superfood is like dried fruits n veggies, greens I imagine. I know a few people who had good results, one person lost 7 pounds, and the other 20 in 28 days!

Pretty much, but then, of course, if you are training for performance, the v-diet is probably quite a bit less than optimal. And if you are training twice a day, forget it. Yeah, some weirdo might be able to make it work, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

The shakes I drink daily are from a company that exist solely to make people healthy. No shakes give you EVERYTHING you need. If drank 3 times a day, with one serving of fruits and vegetables, after 5 days it resets your glycemic index, which as a result, will help you lose weight the healthy way. Afterwards you drink 2 a day, which an extra serving of fruits and vegetables, and then work your way down to 1 shake per day, and mainly fruits and vegetables. If anybody wants to know where to look into this company and program, just shoot me a private message and Ill tell you how to get ahold of it.

I can't see why you couldn't drink everything your body needs even for performance. I don't think it would be very cheap tho.

Let's say on very basic terms we was making it ourselves with whey protein as the base then on top of that you've got the fibre (the amount of fibre you need in a day just from supplements would be costing some amount!) Then things like magnesium and potassium aren't cheap. And a mulitvitamin wouldn't do the job if you wasn't having any foods at all. So it wouldn't be cheaper than eating.

Unless if ya really thought about it you live on shakes and veg and get everything I'd say... Just a random thought lol

In the video he says buying in bulk keeps things cheap as everything he buys has a long shelf life unlike fresh food. Don't think I could do it I like eating too much.
