Hey Guys I have seen some of the users here live in vegas. I wanted to get a feel of how it is to live there. I would be moving from LA. I work in the IT/networking sector but also have a lot of experience in music/livesound/AV. Summer probably isnt the best time to ask but your only 6 degrees hotter than LA right now.

-Where are the best towns to buy property?
-Good to work for casinos? If not where?
-Traffic
-how living in NV is (laws, tax etc....)
-current housing market (looking at houses around 210-230k if not cheaper)

Obviously there is a lot of entertainment. I am not looking to have kids anytime soon so thats not an issue. My boss just bought a house out there then backed out cause he said the market looks like it will crash soon. I wanted to get some advise from people who live out there. Share away sherdogs.

fucking a man read the damn post. This is not for vegas stories, i want to hear from people who live there

Sorry man I missed that. Make sure you check out a UFC while you're there on your holiday, great atmosphere.

Oh man. .i love getting fucked up in vegas and banging hookers

hahaha, sorry threadstarter. you can't expect anything less from sherdog.

i hear that henderson is a nice city outside of vegas to live in. the summerlin neighborhood is supposed to be nice. if you're used to la weather, vegas heat shouldn't be too much more to deal with. that's all i got. good luck.

Depends what you can afford. The closer to the center of town, the more ghetto and cheaper it will be.

Moving to Henderson (Green Valley, Anthem, etc) or north to Summerlin are much nicer areas, but also much more expensive.

I've never worked for a casino, but I have friends that have. Most casino jobs go through some kind of union, so it's better to look into the union you'd belong to, if any.

Living here is pretty cheap. 8.25% sales tax. No state income tax, so that's a plus.

Housing market is not good right now. Most things are increasing in price. I'm not a realtor however, so I'd link up with one and get some better answers.

Hope it helps

Too cold for me in the winters. Very dry and no natural vegetation at all. Great nightlife and entertainment. Overall I’d say LA is a lot better. To me, trees, greenery, rain, bodies of water, etc. are very important. Vegas has none of that. Could never live there.

I've done 3 weeks there for holidays only

I fucking love it

Have you looked at 'the lake Las Vegas' or some shit
It's a new development but it does look pretty pricey

I heard You can make a good living selling dope at the bus stop in front of the hooters casino

My mum and dad went to Vegas. Came back with a brilliant story about my dad shitting himself on a bus tour. What a city.

The weather sucks, the traffic is worse by the day, the whole fucking perimeter of the city is constantly under construction, there are homeless and drug addicts literally everywhere now, police force is understaffed and very willing to hand out tickets for minor infractions, the housing market is on shaky legs and most of all, everyone is in a shitty mood 24/7.

Hope this helps

Spent my whole life here.

I prefer the west side by far (summerlin).

Henderson has ridiculous traffic.

Don't even think about moving to North Las Vegas

AV work should be easy to find but may be seasonal. One off thing about working in Vegas is there aren't a whole lot of companies to work for if you work on the strip. For example.if you get fired from an MGM property you basically can't work in half the city. Housing prices are high my house is 2.5x what I payed for it 7 years ago

GF just got a new place by Lone Mountain. Building up fast. Still in Aliante and biased towards it though.

My dad lives in Spring Valley (Tropicana and The Beltway...west side). It's not bad. Taxes are better than California. You may be able to get something not ghetto for under $300k.
If you live in Vegas and like to gamble a lot, it may not be the best place to live.

Always a great time there.

Not sure if it's still around, but Drai's is a great after hours club.

Good luck, dude.
