well i made myself liver and onions last night, tasty stuff. unfortuantely the only way i know to make it is to flour the liver and pan sear (or pan fry whatever it is called) in butter for about a minute each side. any1 have a good recipe for liver that is a healthier way to prepare it. i don't want to give up the most nutrient dense thing i eat all month.

i also carmelized the onions (which is adding sugar to them but only maybe 1/3 of a tsp) which i later slapped myself for.

anyone ever grilled liver? i may try that next month.

Grind up oats in a blender, season the powder, and use that as your coating and sear the liver in a better oil choice--cold pressed coconut oil or olive oil. Use a nonstick pan to lessen the amount of oil (unless you're scared of them and fear they will give you a tumor).

Onions will carmelize naturally if you fry them hot enough.

good thinking, never thought of grinding up oats as a coating. question, can i just buy like quaker oats and grind up those bad boys? and yes cold pressed EVOO may be a better choice. i think my pans are non-stick, but not sure, they are really the fiances pans anyways.

Yea, old fashioned is fine. I roll my own oats, but I'm weird. :) BTW, this will not taste completely like flour. You may, or may not, like it. I like oat flavor. I find this a better coating than whole wheat flour.

Dear lord, are you a fucking Quaker?

And seriously, between Liver n' Onions and the Corned Beef Hash, I'm not sure what you *wouldn't* eat.

LOL--no not a quaker. Oat groats have more nutrition and are really cheap. I also grind my own wheat for flour (although I don't use flour often). All the natural oils and vits are preserved in the whole grain--so no need for fortification. We also buy raw milk when possible and eat lots of wild game.

yes i pretty much will eat anything, but what do you have against liver, super dense in nutrients so it is far superior to muscle meat in that repsect.
and i never talked about corned beef hash (but that stuff tastes great) i was talking about corned beef and cabbage.

have you noticed any issues with raw milk? it is illegal in NY (i suppose if i lived near a farm i could just ask a neighbor for it though). i have even tried to find raw goat's milk, but i guess any unpasteurized milk is a no-go in NY.
BTW, that is some serious healthy eating there, nice work.

Oops, my mistake regarding the corned beef hash vs. corned beef and cabbage.

Also, liver is fine, from a nutrient perspective I guess, but it tastes kinda grody.

oh ok, the taste is what you are objecting to and not the health aspect. well in that respect you are in agreement with 99% of the population that thinks liver is disgusting, my fiance had to leave the apartment when i was cooking it, it did smell strong. you know it's a manly meal when the ladies leave in disgust. hahahha

Ha ha! No, not Amish. Just weird. If I were Amish I would be a pacifist as well. I would probably not post on an MMA board as I wouldn't have electricity or a computer. We do have Amish down the road though--and man I just couldn't wear those clothes. And all the dudes have very weird styles for their facial hair.

If you live in or by a rural community look into a feed store that sells "animal grade" raw milk and winks when they say it. A lot of smaller feed stores sell free range chickens, fresh eggs and "animal grade" raw milk. In states where there are rules against selling RAW milk certain communities will get past that by selling it "animal grade". Ask where they get their milk and how they process it. Smaller herds, quick cold storage, and grass fed are all good signs.

Raw milk is far superior to pasteurized/homogonized milk. All the BCAAs are in tact and the flavor is superior. Many times people who have trouble with milk don't notice the same trouble with raw milk as there are still enzymes in it.

I don't personally like goat's milk, but I honestly don't drink much milk of any kind...not because I don't think it's healthy...I just don't like it much.

If raw milk isn't available I always buy organic milk to avoid the hormones.

no i live in a city just north of NYC, i imagine the closest farm has to be at least an hour away and by that logic a feed store would be just as far away.
i have read up about all the benefits of raw milk and would love to try it (don't drink much milk myself, except maybe a handful of times a year). good tip on how to get it next time i head up to the country.

Yea, it can be a major pain to purchase Raw for a lot of people. Rossboxing.com has some good threads about it in their nutrition forum. Ross himself recommends raw milk in place of regular milk. But like I said, it's not easy to locate for a lot of people.

Please forgive my ignorance, I did a short search on this and didn't really find what I wanted. You are referring to a calf liver, right?

Where my folks live in Ohio, we hafta drive past the Amish to git to town... Not BSin' y'all at all. Any town we go to, we hafta drive past Amish farms. Plus, some of the Amish let us hunt on their land, so I've known quite a few. Sometimes when I'm havin' computer or truck troubles, I think about turnin' Amish. :) I wouldn't mind the clothes, except couldn't strip down in the summer heat. And the "weird styles for facial hair" comes from lettin' everythin' but thge mustache grow. They shave the mustache because of it's connections to the military and Dan Severn (j/k on the Severn part).

Too funny. I don't mind the Amish because they stick to themselves and don't go around telling everybody else they're evil. They may think it, but they don't say it. Works for me.
