Little Cousin Killed Himself Lastnight And Family is Lost

None of us have any clue to why. He was 17 and getting ready for college and had several chances to go play Baseball in college though scholarship. Good grades, no drugs, picture peferct kid and family. Mom and dad are educated and have everything you could think of to make a great home. I am stuggling with this. I have kids and I just want to hold them but they are at school and I am at work. I admit I didnt know him that well other than seeing him at his games and family gathering. So there is no reason for me to really understand what he was going though but when i look at the life he been given it makes it harder for me to understand stand anything. His mom and i are close enough that she would have told us if he was going to thepry or meds for any mental issuse and he wasnt. He came from what most would call just the perfect family. Sorry for rambling. I am just in shock. I dont understand.

I am not sure to be honest. the family is just saying he took his own life. I asked if a drug overdose and they said no but nothing more. It the first sucide in the family.

Sorry to hear that TS. Depression can be a factor; some young kids stress over things that are ridiculous like girls or social media posts. Hopefully your family finds the answers they need to help them through this.

Damn, suicide is terrible. I can almost think of 10 suicides in my county alone.

It seems like most of the suicides I can think of had a reason behind it, such as a divorce or breakup. It’s usually a loss of some sort, but the way I understand there doesn’t have to be a cause for someone to feel miserable.

Some people just kill themselves without warning. I had a friend who on his morning run literally ran off a cliff to kill himself. No warning signs, just his usual routine, was definitely not an acccident. I had another friend try to hang himself and got caught in the act. Then he was forced to see a psychologist on a Wednesday for the first time in his life and killed himself on the Friday.

sorry to hear it TS, unfortunately you may never know. As I've said on here before in other threads my father offed himself Christmas morning of 08. No rhyme or reason to it, was getting ready to make a Christmas roast for friends coming over that night, pulled out the digital thermometer, pan and roast right after he and I spoke on the phone wishing each other Merry Christmas. Then went into the safe, got the gun, loaded a single hollow point, sat down in a chair on the outside patio and boom, that was it. No note, nothing. Took me awhile to come to grips with the fact that I'll never know why he did it, hope you and your family get through it and accept the fact that there's nothing you guys could do.

I knew a kid very similar. Great kid, popular, smart, athletic.
He shot himself with a shotgun his mother gave him for Christmas, at home. They found him because his school reported him absent and it started a search.

He left only a note telling his sister not to do what he'd done.

I am a paramedic and wife is a clinical social worker in the ER. Some mental health medication can be a case of trial and error. Despite research, experience and education it isnt an exact science. It is genuinely hard to accurately diagnose and treat people with multiple disorders...at the end of the day it comes to a risk vs reward situation. You give pharms knowing potential side effects but youre trying to improve the persons life. No Dr at hospital level is making money by giving out pills- theyre doing it to try and help the patient.
