Just for fun, lets compile a list of currently active former UFC champions.

I will list the ones who pop into my head and if you add some more I'll throw them into the OP with quote tags. If any of these guys have retired and I missed it, also let me know that.

Which former, but still active, champion do you think has the best shot at regaining their title? (or becoming a champion in their current division)

Alright we have

HW

Cain (could be a THREE time champ!)
Barnett (won it on roids and was stripped, fight should have been a NC by they still announce as champ)
Mir
JDS

LHW:
Jones (still sort of is the champion)
Shogun
Rashad
Machida (active at MW)
Vitor (active at MW)

MW
Anderson Silva

WW
Johnny Hendricks
Condit (interm)

LW
Pettis
Bendo (even though he's leaving the UFC, he's still active in MMA)
Edgar (active at fw)

FW
There has only ever been The Aldo
he has been Aldominate and has subjected many others to his Aldomination (but you could include Faber as he was WEC champ and #1 ranked FW in the world when he was champ in the WEC..I dunno. lets say "sorta Faber")

BW
Renan Barão
Dominick Cruz

Flyweight
Mighty Mouse is the only champ thus far

Women's divisions:

Rouseyweight (Hollyweight)
Batamweight

Ronda Rousey

Straweight (what an insulting fuckin name for a weightclass)

Carla Esparza

Alright Sherbros, who am I missing?

JBJ seems like the most obvious choice. Other than him, my votes would go to Cain and Ronda. Can see both of them wearing gold again soon, despite the one-sidedness of their recent losses.

JBJ seems like the most obvious choice.

From those you listed I would say Jones, Cain, Cruz, Pettis, Hendricks

i never understood the hoopla about being a multiple time champ... just means you cant defend.

It is much better to be a long reigning one time champ

Also Bendo is not leaving the UFC, the UFC is going to give him top dollar. He just talks about free agency to position his negotiations with the UFC.

Most obvious choice seems to be JBJ.

Benson is definitely leaving?

JBS IS the champ.

To answer your question: Cruz and Cain.

Jones is already a a what 7x champion? its pretty bunk that you would have to lose your belt and win it back to be considered a 2x champion.

Gsp is technically a 2x champion if you say that even though he defended his belt like 9 times

Jones
Ronda
Cruz
Pettis
and Cain/JDS all have a decent chance of doing it.

HW

Cain (could be a THREE time champ!) - yes, for sure
Barnett (won it on roids and was stripped, fight should have been a NC by they still announce as champ) - bleh
Mir - no way
Nog (interm) - retired
JDS- yes, he has Werdums Number

LHW:
Jones - he'll be the champion again
Shogun - maybe a hot dog eating contest
Rashad - no
Machida (active at MW) - maybe with trt

MW
Anderson Silva - nope, Weidy beat Andy, let's move on

WW
Johnny Hendricks - maybe

LW
Pettis - maybe
Bendo (even though he's leaving the UFC, he's still active in MMA) - maybe
Edgar (active at fw) - not at lw again

FW
There has only ever been The Aldo

BW
Renan Barão - nope
Dominick Cruz - with a good knee he can be the champ again

Flyweight
Mighty Mouse is the only champ thus far

Women's divisions:

Batamweight

Ronda Rousey - yes, she will have shot

Straweight (what an insulting fuckin name for a weightclass)

Carla Esparza - nope, Sparza is nothing compared to JJ and Gadelha

Also Hendricks definitely has the skill/ability to win it again, much as people don't like it he should arguably still be champion.

why no Vitor? or Connor/condit if you're including some interims?

I think Cain, JDS, Jones, Hendricks, Edgar and Cruz all have a good shot at repeating.

Obviously Jones appears to have the best chance.
