Not sure if anybody cares or if it has been posted recently, but I got bored and decided to trace the UFC Heavyweight title from when Mark Coleman originally won it at UFC 12.

Coleman - (UFC 12 - loses next fight)

Maurice Smith - (UFC 14 - 1 defense)

Randy Couture - (UFC Japan - loses next fight)

Enson Inoue - (Vale Tudo Japan 1998 - 1 Defense)

Mark Kerr - (Pride GP 2000 - loses next fight)

Fujita - (Pride GP 2000 - loses next fight)

Mark Coleman - (Pride GP 2000 - 2 defenses)

Big Nog - (Pride 16 - 6 defenses)

Fedor - (Pride 25 - 18 defenses)

Werdum - (SF: Fedor vs Werdum - loses next fight)

Overeem - (SF: Overeem vs Werdum - 1 defense)

Big Foot - (UFC 156 - loses next fight)

Cain - (UFC 160 - 1 defense)

Werdum - (UFC 188- ????)

Pretty cool that it came back around to being the same person that is actually the champ.

Also, Fedor the GOAT UFC HW.

you make mistake. i fix fo u.

coleman>smith>inoue>kerr>fujita>coleman>mirko>brennan schaub>ronda rousey

My first sentence: "Not sure if anybody cares or if it has been posted recently,"

can't say I have frequented here until recently

UFC HW Champ =

Coleman beats Severn
Maruice Smith beats Coleman
Randy beats Smith

Then...

  • Randy won the UFC belt... then left the UFC and promptly lost to Inoue in Japan. The UFC had to prop-up two fighters to fight for a new HW "Belt"...

  • Bas Rutten was named the winner over Kevin Randleman... then Bas drops to LHW* and vacates the HW Title (suffers injuries and retires)

  • Randleman (who just lost to Bas) beats Pete Williams to win the "new-new UFC Belt"

  • Randy comes back, after losing MULTIPLE TIMES outside of the UFC, and wins the "new-new Belt" from Randleman..... leaves the UFC as their Champ again (sort of), and LOSES AGAIN...

  • The UFC ignores the fact that Valentijn Overeem beat Randy... and now essentially, Randy fights Pedro Rizzo for the new-new-new UFC Belt... Randy wins.

  • Josh Barnett beats Randy for the defacto new-new-new UFC Belt... but despite not getting any sanctions by any athletic commission, the UFC decides to "strip" Barnett of the Title after testing positive for a banned substance.

  • The new-new-new-new UFC HW Belt is up for grabs and it's Randy again, but this time Ricco Rodriguez beats him. Then Ricco loses the belt to Sylvia.

  • Frank Miir beats Sylvia... but Frank Mir gets into a motorcycle accident... and Arolvski and Sylvia fight for the FIVE-TIME REMOVED "new" UFC HW Belt... when he returns, Frank Mir loses to Maricio Cruz

  • Randy beat Sylvia for this watered down belt... sort of leaves the UFC... Frank Mir and Minotauro fight for the 6-Time removed paper Title.... etc... Brock beats Randy... Velasquez beats Brock.... Cigano beats Velasquez... <-- STILL ONLY fighting for the 6-Time removed "UFC HW Belt"...

UFC HW Belt...

This has been done for ages.

Also check out the LW FW and BW belts as they are in dispute due to multiple lineages.

yea...should have just typed MMA

Yeah, that's a major distinction. That is THE distinction between the concept of "Lineal" Title and everything else--promotion org "belts," or Titles.

No shit, no one's disputing that. It's just interesting.

It should be a "no shit"... but it's not to some people.

Sherdog is full of impressionable people who may not know any better. For those of us who do, lets set things straight.

I like the topic just fine, BTW.

Big Timmeh lost to Ray Mercer by KO.

Ray Mercer lost to Kimbo Slice by submission.

Therefore, Kimbo Slice is better than Big Timmeh?

Mercer vs Kimbo was a worked fight. That's why it wasn't sanctioned.

Didn't know Shooto Featherweight line and WEC / UFC Featherweight line will unite for the first time ever with Conor vs. Aldo.
History in the making!

Yeah, kind of cool that Coleman and Werdum Time held it twice.
