Kanemitsu upsets #11 Gejon!
Up-and-coming prospect, OPBF #10 minimum Yuji Kanemitsu (11-1, 6 KOs), 109.75, was awarded an upset split decision (97-94, 96-95 and 94-98) over WBA #11 ranked Filipino Eriberto Gejon (23-4-1, 14 KOs), 109.75, over ten close rounds on Sunday in Osaka, Japan. The taller Filipino sustained a cut over the right eyebrow caused by an accidental butt midway in the third, when Kanemitsu took the initiative. Gejon was in command by utilizing his advantageous reach and throwing sharp straight punches to the Japanese willing mixer. In the second half, Kanemitsu occasionally forced Gejon to the ropes with busy combinations, while the Filipino retaliated with good straight punches. Gejon claimed his victory, but it was such a hairline affair that either could have been the victor. Promoter: Mutoh Promotions.
