I currently weigh 150 pounds and I'm wondering based on my powerlifts if I should bulk up to 155 or drop down to 145/143 for MMA. My lifts are:

Bench Press: 160
Deadlift: 235
Squat: 220

I don't want to send you down the wrong road as I am relatively new to both PLing and MMA training but my suggestion would be to try and bulk up to 155 but aim to fight at 145. Cutting the 10lbs leading up to a fight should not be to difficult. I lose up to 10 pounds of water weight after a 2 hour BJJ session. Either way I think fighting at 155 is a bad idea for you unless you get to 160+ otherwise you will be undersized against some opponents.

I'm in a similar position as I currently weigh 155. I would like to fight at the class because it has larger recognition in North America but I feel come fight night I would be undersized not cutting weight. I would still like to make it to 160lbs or more but I think 145 is my natural fighting weight and therfore my best bet.

Anyway ask your trainers what they think and gather some advice from these boards.

whats your height? if you are very short the lower weight classes might make more sense. otherwise bulk up to 155

I'm a tall 5'6.

Well I'm off to kickboxing, gotta train first before I jump the gun too much. Thanks for the advice.

5'6 u might be better off in 143lbs, but it is good for 155lbs too. It's whatever you feel more comfortable with I guess.

what the fuck you lift has no bering on how you fight

I wouldn't say nooo, bearing, surely it matters some. It is all part of the equation, with skill, and stamina and all those other things we train in. I have had more skilled bu smaller and weaker oponents dominate me in BJJ, but I have also faced a massively strong guy before who I could not do anything against either.

and to the thread starter...
I am not a very strong guy myself, I weigh right around 150 right now, but my lifts are all over yours. But I am also 4 inches taller than you.

My suggestion is dropping down class, and not worrying (for now) about getting bulky. Get stronger, sure, but don't pack on the extra pounds on purpose or anything like that.

Bulk up to 155 and get as strong as you can. Once competition starts you can drop to 143
