Rua is on a two fight winning streak for the first time since 2009.

Shogun is my favorite fighter, hands down. His inconsistency and last few years have been brutal to watch.. But I've never really thought he was completely shot and needed to retire like so many people posting here did.. And watching the fight tonight really made me happy.

Review his performance.

The good:
Shogun is fighting smart. He has that tendency to brawl, but I think the knockouts to OPS and Hendo have made him adjust his game and he's didn't get hit with too many clean shots..

His overall ability to deal with a big and athletic wrestler was good.. He was getting back to his feet and stopping takedowns

His power is still a big problem, and possibly could have scored a knockout if the bell didn't save beating all day twice

The bad;
I honestly don't believe he is giving it his all in training.. Just look at his body and how much he slowed down after round one.

The overall size of Anderson gave him problems, he spent too much time against the cage and defending.

I felt like he started to head hunt and stray from his technique as the fight went on.

Overall.. Anderson was a nightmare matchup for him, and he won a decision. Im pretty happy.. If he keeps training at kings and fighting smart, maybe he can make some noise!

I'm happy shogun won, but wouldn't get to excited about him making a title run, the best I hope for him is to win a couple more decent fights and then retire. Would love to see him against Belfort (at 185 or 205), Rashad or Bader

He ranked number 8 in the world.. That's like 2 fights from a title shot

I wasnt super impressed with his performance,i thought Anderson could have won if he just dealed out more damage but he got spooked by getting dropped, but that was when he was in super close range. I felt like shoguns overhand rights were seen for days and he shoulda made him pay for those every time, and if anderson just did more damage after getting the takedown or even when fighting for it,he would have had the clear win even when getting dropped. Really, those two times shogun got close enough to land bombs was the only time he got his stuff in.otherwise he was on the defensive most of the time.He was lucky to earn the SD.

he didn't get the finish, it might as well be another loss on his record.

87% finishing rate coming into this fight.

He was landing all sorts of kicks and punches in the first round
He was that one from start to finish

Shogun is making a title run and can very well become champion again.

But he must fix his conditioning and strength, as you rightfully mentioned.

It's all up to him.

As for me, I truly believe he will be champ as his desire and power are still there.

His stamina looked like crap in this fight. Shogun is one of those fighters that doesn't fight smart when tired... Rd 2 was just hard to watch. Hope he works diligently on that, otherwise it's lights out against any worthy opponent.

Still confused on how he is ranked No 8...

Fun to watch as always, but no way he makes a title fun.

You see it is posts like these that make people think Shogun fans are truly delusional

Geez could you imagine shogun texeira? Would be hard to watch

Shogun is shot to bits and needs to retire, but so so glad he beat cigarette break Corey Anderson. Anderson is walking sleeping tablet and I wouldn't want to live in a world where he has a W over a guy like Shogun.

Shogun is also my favorite fighter ever. Having said that, Shogun is technically the same fighter he was 10 years ago. He didn't evolve a bit, and he is also a lot less athletically capable. For some reason he also looks uninterested and unmotivated. I will always continue to cheer for him though.

Shogun is a skilled fighter but his best days are behind him. His knees are likely shot and he has trouble defending the takedown.

He's got the Chute-Box aggression and killer instinct, but his body is aging and the power and explosiveness is not all there.

It's just an old hero aging and fading.

Shogun has never been the same since he fought Jones and the Hendo fights....His last fight against Machida was his best ....and I don' think we will ever see that again.

He is aging, slowing, and has blown out his knee 3 times....he is earning a paycheck as a stepping stone now and is waaaaay too small to ever threaten for LHW belt. Needs to drop to 185 and get some cardio back.

Imo, the only chance for Shogun to revive his career is to hire a good nutritionist,
do alot of cardio and drop down to 185.
He won't have that size disadvantage like with Jones, OSP, etc.

Otherwise don't see him beating any of TOP 10.
Money fight rematch with Rampage would be fun.

My life doesn't revolve around acceptance of sherdog like yours. I'll support true warriors and call it like it is. You can be a blind sheep all you will.
