Let's make this clear, UFC isn't sports organization, it's entertainment organization

Just some from the top of my head:

1. Brock Lesnar: gets title shot with 2-1 MMA record and 1-1 UFC record. Because he is a draw and jacked up.

2. Chael Sonnen gets title shot coming of a loss. In another division. Because he can talk shit.

3. Bisping wants to fight anyone but Romero, who is on a 8-0 winning streak and has consecutive 4 top 10 wins.

4. GSP has a rightful contender in Hendricks, but wants to fight Diaz. Because Diaz trashtalks him and loses his last fight. GSP gets his wish. Now he is back after 3 years hiatus, will fight Bisping, while there are actual contenders in stacked MW division.

5. Frankie Edgar gets title shot in his new division's debut, after losing 2 fights in a row.

6. Conor McGregor gets title shot in his new division's debut, with top contenders screwed over.

7. Holly Holm gets title shot in new division after 2 consecutive loses, loses and again and will probably get a rematch.

8. Great amount of stupid matchmaking, fighters ducking, trashtalking for hype etc.

Etc. etc.

You don't have this shit in legit sports organizations. Barcelona was a clear favorite against Paris SG few days ago, but they lost 4-0, and if they don't pull of a miracle in the rematch they are out for this season. Finito.

You don't need any trash talk between the players or teams to get it hyped. People just watch it.

Same with NFL, NBA or whatever Murican sports organizations.

Same with every legit sport.

I'd say 50/50. There's a lot of hype and poor matchmaking but it's not exactly fake wrestling.

Yes it is true, A-level sports are Football (not handegg), Formula-1 and Boxing.

It has been this way since Day 1 why can't people accept this. Every single major MMA organization in world has been like this.

I'd venture that a good 60-80% of the American audience watching UFC couldn't give a shit about MMA, which is why it won't ever be a legitimate mainstream sport. Story and hype leading up to a fight matter to them, then results matter afterwards. The fact a person won or lost and the manner in which they did it trumps everything that happened from the start of the fight up to that moment, and it's only for the sake of the resolution of the storyline they have running through their heads.

Not to say a good amount of people don't like MMA, and even I get bored of watching a 12 fight card for 6+ hours with 9-10 decisions on it, but the organization obviously found that keeping attention in any way is going to be better for the green.

Hell, I'm one of the more vocal critics of entertainment aspects overruling competitive validity, but if I ran the UFC, I'd be lucky to make that shit as popular in the American market as freestyle wrestling in non-olympic years.

Dude, is not a rematch, its the 2nd game of the 2-game series, not the same as a rematch, league sports are way different than combat sports, they dont keep "scores" the same way, they just reset after every tournament.

I'm hoping that with time the sport will grow and attract a bigger, better and more established audience allowing the UFC to grow into a legitimate sports organization like the NBA or NHL where there is proper structure of a ranking system and fighters union, I understand this sort of thing takes time. I just like watching the fights and seeing someone get beat up, I really have no interest in the hype, back stories and grudges of fighters, that shit is for the TMZ losers who spend more time worrying about celebrity lives than their own.

Pro Sports is a form of entertainment. Regardless of whether it's so called college football, NFL, Olympic sports or MMA.

People watch sports to be entertained.

If you're working out personally to be healthy, fit and get pussy, that's something different.

Also you are very naive to think that NFL, NBA, NASCAR, F1 and soccer are not rigged for entertainment value.

I think at one point it could have been argued as Sports mixed with a healthy does of Entertainment. I think it's more the opposite at the moment. Entertainment first .. Sport a distant second.

Money makes the world go round unfortunately. It sucks that contenders get over looked for fights that put bums in seats, but this is the way it is and it's not changing any time soon. Especially after WME just paid $4 billion for the UFC and need to maximise revenue

Since ufc brought in usada.. Perhaps it is neither.
