Some background to my goofy thread:

I recently took up poker again, and was reminded how incredibly profitable patience can be. Patience, usually an undervalued quality. You'd find no kid claiming that he wants to be really patient when he grows up, yet you'd find millions wanting to be really strong.

Long story short, it brought me to this list of virtues which is pretty much the first one I grabbed from google. (disclaimer)

Like many people, I was worse of than I thought :p

    http://www.virtuesforlife.com/virtues-list/

So, if you know you might have a weak spot or two in your character, this list will most likely cover it, and then claim what your are missing and the symptoms it causes in your individual. I make no claims of how accurate this is, but to me it made sense looking at it.

Interessting to see how many virtues we automatically default on if we have trust issues, lack honesty or hope.

    Discuss if it pleases.

Patience is a weapon. Maybe the most powerful weapon available to human beings, when we use it right.

Yes I agree. And it's a trait that demands a lot from the individual. So most people do not possess it.

According to the list, if you want to be more patient, than what you need is to achieve inner peace and have determination. (It says peace but I think they mean inner yes?)

To achieve peace, which also is a virtue, you'd need Love, serenity and unity.

Everything is intertwined like this which is pretty cool.

    LOL

The thing about virtues is they're really there to benefit ourselves more than other people, even though at first blush it may feel like being squeezed into a box, or that we must bow to societal pressures.

For instance, a lot of people have a problem with political correctness because they think it's the reduction of their own freedoms; they complain that they can no longer speak how they've always spoken, and that society has become weak or pussy-ass.

But the truth is political correctness is not at all weakening.

It's about understanding that someone else has a different familiarity with the word. Moreover, political correctness does not mean the "pussy-asses" get to override your familiarity of the same word. Political correctness encourages you to understand there is multiple meanings, not just one. Once we can appreciate the multiple meanings, maybe we don't need to argue so vehemently for just one meaning. There's strength to that.

    Virtues make life easier.

Political Correctness can also be stifling, especially among old friends, but I get your meaning Three Gunned Fishy and I like that you said what you said. Its a good point.

    Yes I agree ^^

And to make my google list relevant, PC isn't a virtue ofcourse... But Understanding is. It's based on kindness, tolerance and it transcends egoism.

If we assume the list is "speaking with God's voice" (absolute true). Then it would mean that racist people lack patience... ---> Play poker against racists is profitable :D

    Yea it's pretty eye opening.

I've always known about my trust issues... But when I took a look at this faboulus list, I saw how much I miss out on by lacking in trust.

Also, if a person is dishonest, he can't even take the information to heart. Dishonesty seems to be one of worst things, since it locks you down as well in your current state.
