There are so many directors to choose from. Of course, if we go with Tim Burton, then we have to cast Johnny Depp as the lead character and Helena Bonham carter has to get a role.

I was thinking that we could give M. Night Shyamalan a shot. There could be some twist. Maybe the sky pirate's mothership is actually heaven and when the title character discovers this he let's himself be killed in battle so he can go to heaven and infiltrate the enemy.
