Lesser Kickboxing Orgs

Yo, I've always been confused about kickboxing organizations, particularly regarding Muay Thai. What are the lesser orgs? I remember seeing some events on tv around 2006 where dudes in sweat pant style get ups would go out and do TKD stuff. Also, Kit Cope seemed to fight in small gig stuff, three rounders.
