Legitimate guard passing aid?

I thought the can opener was illegal in a lot of white belt tournaments?

I have a question about a guard passing aid and i'm legitimately not trolling.

Would tickling your opponent be an effective way to help open their guard? I mean think about someones reaction when they get tickled. they squirm around and lose concentration and they cant really resist it. some people even lose their breath. It could be really effective. But if theyre not ticklish you'd just look like a dumbass. it is pretty gay though but I think it could actually be effective even if its kind of silly

Thanks for the replies guys, I will be taking the can opener out of guard passes and going for more traditional methods and doing them as well as possible.

Screw your can openers and Japanese neckties your gonna get a nice big target on your back afterwards

Learn to break the guard standing first. When you've gotten really good at that, you can look into the S

It may work for you now, but as you advance relying on this will probably get you swept/submitted.

I often grab the collar right at the back of the neck in some passing situations. Not from full closed guard, but sometimes controlling your partners head by means of a collar grip or a collar tie nogi is a very valid and effective aid to passing guard. It's not like you have to try to rip the guys head off.

I've noticed too, that people are early discouraged from ever touching the back of the head since its cranking and spazzy, but without pulling up on the head I'd never hit any mounted triangles. It has it's place.

Randomly pulling on or cranking any part of the body without knowledge what you're doing or with a specific goal in mind is going to be frowned on or discouraged as a useless part of your training.

What is the best defence to a can opener?

I've had success with my own brute strength counter. I basically put both hands on the opponent's chin and bench press their head to the ceiling.

They let go. :)
