Normally we discuss firearms legislation and related struggles in the War Room. With all the trolls and gun-grabbers in there it seemed liked a good idea to have a places where pro-firearms people can comment on current events without all the negativity. So this thread is for discussing upcoming legislation, court cases, and which groups are out there fighting for our rights that deserve our support.

For example, a group in my area recently formed called the Hawaii Firearms Coalition.

As we know, cases that come out of Hawaii are in the 9th Circuit and can have a large effect on other parts of the country, including California. So even if you're not in Hawaii that doesn't mean a group like this can't benefit you down the road. If any of you are Facebook users then please throw 'em a like.

Here's them in action. The state has a website to solicit opinions from the public on legislation. Turns out they don't use the site, but didn't tell anyone, and then didn't count all the testimony that came in speaking out the against the bill. When confronted it was typical bureaucracy.

Delaware looking to clamp down in various ways, including an AWB and 15 round limit.

I have a feeling this will be a sad thread in the coming years.

Here's good news. This is the case over New Yorkers not being able to transport their firearms out of the city to ranges or second homes.

https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2...o-city-of-new-york-nrsrpa-v-nyc-goes-forward/

As you probably know, the Supreme Court agreed to hear New York State Rifle & Pistol Association vs. City of New York earlier this year. That case has the potential to be a landmark decision for gun rights on the order of (or possibly exceeding) Heller and McDonald.

Those who read the legal tea leaves on the anti-gun side have recognized the potential for the case to re-write (read: strike down) gun control laws across the country and it has them in a quiet state of panic. So much so, in fact, that the city of New York put the wheels in motion to change the law that’s at issue in the case.

This was an undisguised, cynical attempt to short-circuit a potential (likely?) adverse ruling by rendering the case moot. Attorneys for the city filed a motion with the court to postponethe proceedings in the case while the city tries to smother it in its sleep.

The good news is, no matter what the city does, there are exceptions to the mootness doctrine available to the Justices that allow them to hear the case even if the underlying law has changed. And such brazen attempts to sidestep a ruling the respondent wants to avoid tends to anger the nine robed ones.

Today, the Court denied the city’s motion for a stay. As attorney LKB tells us,

The motion they filed was exceptionally weak sauce. In theory, if New York City actually eliminates the regulation/ordinance at issue, then they could move to have the writ dismissed as moot.(That will probably be their next move.). The Court will likely deny that motion, and indicate that mootness will be addressed by the opinion.

Every little bit helps. :)

Hawaii Butterfly Knife Ban Challenged on Second Amendment Grounds

U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “Knives are arms protected by the Second Amendment,” a complaint filed Wednesday in the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii contends. The case is Andrew Teter and James Grell, Plaintiffs, v. Clare E. Connors, in her Official Capacity as the Attorney General of the State of Hawaii, and Al Cummings, in his Official Capacity as the State Sheriff Division Administrator, Defendants. The complaint challenges the State of Hawaii’s ban on butterfly knives (or balisongs), knives “having a blade encased in a split handle that manually unfolds with hand or wrist action with the assistance of inertia, gravity or both.”

In a ruling on a related case reported recently, the United State District Court, Southern District of New York, declared the state’s ban on gravity knives was unconstitutional. That followed a similar ruling on nunchakus. Representing plaintiffs in both those cases was attorney James Maloney.

Representing Teter and Grell in the Hawaii butterfly knife complaint are two attorneys familiar to AmmoLand Shooting Sports News readers frequenting this column, Alan Beck and Stephen Stamboulieh. In addition to supporting this correspondent in numerous actions including a challenge to the Trump bump stock ban, the pair won similar victories getting state bans on electronic weapons in New Jersey and New York declared unconstitutional.

Swiss voters on Sunday approved a measure to tighten the Alpine nation's gun laws, bringing the country in line with many of its European partners despite the objections of local gun owners, Swiss media reported, citing official results.

The Swiss proposal, among other things, requires regular training on the use of firearms, special waivers to own some semi-automatic weapons and serial number tracking system for key parts of some guns. Gun owners would have to register any weapons not already registered within three years, and keep a registry of their gun collections.

Money talks.

They insist the move wouldn't block any law-abiding citizens from obtaining legal guns, but would simply do more to track them.

Switzerland is not an EU member, but is in the Schengen zone. A rejection could jeopardize the country's delicately managed relationship with the powerful economic and political bloc.

This sounds familiar.

Opponents insist that such changes will violate Switzerland's constitution and do little to fight extremism or crime. They say the weapons used in recent attacks in Europe weren't obtained legally. They argue it will crack down mainly on lawful gun owners in Switzerland and ram through what they perceive as the latest diktat from Brussels on the rich country.

Jean-Luc Addor, a Swiss People's Party lawmaker from the southwestern Valais region, said adopting the EU directive would be "unjust, freedom-killing, useless, dangerous, and above all, anti-Swiss."

"With no effect on the fight against terrorism, it will only hit honest, law-abiding citizens who possess legal weapons (so, us!)," he wrote on his website. "It's the epitome of injustice."

Some bad news from Illinois, surprise surprise

https://www.wifr.com/content/news/I...bill-to-fingerprint-gun-owners-510623071.html

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois gun owners will be fingerprinted and will pay more for firearm owner identification cards under legislation approved by the Illinois House.

The bill passed Wednesday is designed to address what Democratic Rep. Kathleen Willis of Addison calls deficiencies in the state's current Firearm Owner's Identification system. She said the bill is a response to the shooting at an Aurora factory in February that left six dead, including the shooter. Gary Montez Martin obtained a FOID card even though he was a convicted felon and should not have been eligible for one.
_____________

Not for a conceal carry liscense, just to simply own a gun and keep it in your home. Give the state your fingerprints and pay a hefty fine if you want to have your rights we do graciously allow to you.

Don't bother looking into the number of homicides and assaults committed by people who already can't legally own a firearm anyway vs those who do legally own theirs. That gang violence isn't the problem.

True friend to the second amendment
8 year assault on your 2nd amendment rights is over

dont blame donny on the HPA failure. House and Senate could have done that regardless of who sat in the executive office. The fact is, GOP uses threat of gun control as a carrot and stick for voters. and you never give them the carrot.

He just came out saying he doesn't like them and would consider banning them.
