Jonathan Brookins (13-6), a fan favorite who won

Flyweight? Jonathan Brookins is 6 feet tall and won TUF as a 155er..

I don't see this cut going well for him in the slightest bit. He was already skinny at 145.

Oh snap!

Just skipping bantamweight altogether.

He'll probably win via choke.

It'll be interesting.

Probably gonna go Jacob volk and start having backstage seizures before fighting due to weight cuts

did you read the article, he is walking around at 140lbs. if this is true he makes 125 with ease.

"With ease"? It's not as straight forward as everyone being able to cut 15lbs to make weight. Some guys - and gals - can cut massive amounts of weight; some not very much. I'd be surprised if Brookins was able to healthily make flyweight on a regular basis, but I guess we'll find out.

You've got to be fucking kidding me. If not, this is nothing to joke about. I think he seriously might die. He was a scrawny featherweight. 6', wiry, and 125 lbs? That's incredibly dangerous. I don't get the logic on his part. Bantamweight would make some sense as a risky move too, but would have the potential to save his major MMA career. It makes zero sense though to drop two weight classes to a grossly unhealthy one for his body type.

I'm sure he knows his body better then you do man. You don't just decide, "Fuck it I will go to 125." He's probably had practice runs, or knows full well he can do it. Whether it means he will be able to fight better because of it? Remains to be seen. But I'm sure he's tested it, and if he and his team think it'll work go for it.

Bantamweight is pretty shallow everywhere, not sure why he wouldn't honestly try that first.

did he actually get cut from the UFC? i thought he retired...wouldnt he still be under contract still?

Another weight cutting death...

Haha... how can this not end well?

If that were true there wouldn't have been a few weight cutting deaths recently, and numerous instances of kidney failure and severe dehydration.

Fighters have thought they knew their bodies plenty of times, and have been wildly wrong, and there was major consequences for it.

Even if the symptoms wouldn't be detectable from one particular time, the damage can insidiously build up.

I'm going by a good amount of knowledge about the norm, and him as well. It's not healthy. He might know that deep down but is doing this out of desperation to add new life to his career or get the biggest leg up in his eyes. Or he may just think, I'm already down to 140, what's 15 more. That part isn't atypical. But it's also not typical to weigh anywhere close to 125 at 6', so he shouldn't go by that. Like I said everybody has their bottoming out point. It's reasonable to believe he's already close to his at 6', 140, and athletic.

You can't just assume that he is going to have issues with it though. He's a veteran and has done plenty of cuts. It probably isn't the healthiest for him regardless but to just say he's going to die or have kidney failure isn't fair to him. From all accounts Brookins is a very smart guy. I have no idea what he is looking like at 140 and 125 seems like a stretch. But I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt because I'm sure he's already tried it a few times before making this decision.

Just going to Bantam would still change up his career and breathe life into it. I don't even think he looked bad at 145/155 most times.

But I'm going to side with the team and Brookins on this one. They know what he can handle and the instances where fighters have kydney failure and even death are very rare compared to people actually making the weight. Especially when your speaking about a guy like Brookins who is a big show vet and knows what he's doing.

I don't think its going to really help him but its up to him.
