i am a wrestler and have done bjj for about a year. the only shot i really have with my left leg is a single and a duck under. i have done muy thai and boxing for about a month, so i have really limited knowledge of striking. after this season, i will get back into it. i think that i have such limited striking experience that it wouldnt be that huge of a deal to just start southpaw so that my shooting leg is already out there but im not sure that is really worht it because i really think i can just set up takedowns with my strikes and the leg back wont matter if i get my opponent out of position. So, basically will being southpaw make my take downs easier? since im a natural righty, can i even be an effective southpaw striker? and does the leg forward make a difference with the takedowns?

You'd have a lot better response if you asked these questions in the grappling and striking forums.

Say what? Uhh, lift heavy shit, eat food.

If you're asking if you should be able to shoot with either leg forward, the answer is yes. Now go add some punctuation and a few capital letters and repost this in the grappling forum.

i dont know anything about striking really, but matt hughes had the same idea as you, and pat militech made him box traditionally...basically u can just throw a combo to set up your shot so that at the end of the combo your right leg is out so u can shoot off of that...i dont know, this is just what i have heard

Although this post should be posted in the grappling forum I'll answer your question anyways since I did click on it. I was also a right leg lead wrestler all through highschool and college and when i started to make the transition to a stand up fighter for MMA I had to change everything, I too thought it would be easier to just stand southpaw and fight that way. But believe me if you've been wrestling long enough it doesnt take long to be just as effective standing in an orthadox stance. I found the easiest way to learn outside of the obvious practice in class was to go home a practice being in a left leg lead stance, throwing a jab and right when you pull your hand back shoot a double do this over and over again everyday untill you feel comfortable. It's akward at first to make that transition I know but soon it will feel just as natural.

youd be better posting this in the standup but yeh you could train yourself to fight southpaw alot of people do this on purpose just to give there oponent a harder time, i heard russians used to train olympic boxers to fight southpaw, but mayby itd be best to practice ur takedowns off both legs so u can fight from both stances

Just TRAIN.
Once you get proficient enough in grappling/striking, you should be able to strike Southpaw and shoot from orthodox stance just fine.
