This is more of a question for what different MMA fighters and martial artists do for leg training. If you're doing a lot of kicks for kickboxing and stand-up, I'm sure you'd want strong legs. But at the same time you wouldn't want massive quads and hams to slow you down by adding too much mass in your lower body. Also of course, you'd almost certainly need good cardio.

So my question is how to MMA and MA fighters train their legs? Light weights with high reps, cardio and whatever kickboxing or routines they have? Something else entirely? I'll admit I have no clue really so I might have said something entirely wrong.

check out the FAQ to learn how to lift.

I'm closing this thread, but I'll walk you through the logic in squating for legs for an athlete:

Your sport takes priority in training. Skills are vastly more important than hours in the weight room.

odds are good time on the feild/mat/in the ring/ whatever is going to leave you fatigued by the time you get the the weight room.

THis means it's even more important to use the best and biggest exercises in the gym cause there's not enough energy to waste time on pidly shit like high rep leg curls.

Squats (not leg press) are a BIG lift and lifting heavy will build the explosiveness a fighter or any athlete needs.

So in short, train hard, squat heavy, kick like a mule.
