I never said you shouldn't do that. I'm not a pragmatist dem lmao. I just think the Bernie or bust crowd is silly and immature
Silly? Eh, fairly subjective term. Immature? Yeah, possibly. But you should maybe spend more time understanding the frustrations and anger behind the sentiments of the Bernie or Bust crowd. Only 50% of the adult population even participates in our democracy (and thats in the general election, which has the highest participation rates). Tens of millions of people in this country feel forgotten and left behind. They feel that these alleged 'democratic' institutions that are supposed to be promoting their best interests, are outright ignoring them and actively working against their best interests (many of them are). They feel that the system within which they live, is completely unwilling to do a single thing (structurally) to help give them a leg up.
Thousands of people are dying every year because they cannot afford healthcare.
Nearly 2,000,000 people are in prison
We have a half million of our fellow Americans living on the streets
The costs of housing and education are quickly becoming too expensive for even many middle class families to afford.
Our government/military are constantly bombing sovereign nations around the globe, taking hundreds of thousands of innocent lives in the name of our country, and destabilizing global security in the process.
Financial deregulation and wall street recklessness are constantly threatening the economic and financial stability of the country (and the planet, by extension)
The planet is hurtling towards climate/ecological catastrophe (50% of all wildlife dead in 40 years, lifeless oceans by 2050, no more coral reefs within 1-2 decades, sea level rise threatening to displace millions, rain forests burning down) and our government is asleep at the wheel. Even under a democratic president and a receptive EPA, we still could not do ANYTHING of actual substance in addressing climate change.
ALL of these problems, and our government flatly refuses to do anything to address these problems. People are fucking PISSED
and you should understand why. When you actually realize the severity of the situation we are in, it gets pretty difficult to just tow the line and just vote for the guy that's less bad than the other guy, but whom you know will absolutely not do anything to address peoples fears and anxieties about the state of things.
What we need right now is a mass protest movement from the pacific to the atlantic oceans. What we need is a re-ignition of the spirit of the 60s to FORCE our leaders and institutions to bow to our demands. The only use that Biden provides to me is knowing that since he's not a complete wack-job narcissist, he just might be willing to make some concessions and pass some progressive policies if he has 1,000,000 activists camped out in DC; whereas Trump is more likely to deploy the national guard and attack them.
