I fight in traditional stance. With that being said, right kicks are fairly easy for me. My technique is good for when I throw a right kick. Yet, when I throw my left I can not gain enough power, and I often lose my balance.

Tips?

YouTube - MMA Striking - Lead Inside Leg Kick

You might find this video of some use

I had the same problem and setting up with punches is definitely the best option. YOu need to step your back foot forward to generate power.

You could try switch kicks but most doubt their efficiency in MMA.

If it is a switch kick that you're going after, when you go to perform it and switch your legs up, do the hop and make sure your rear leg (which will now be your lead leg) comes forward and out at a 45* angle from your opponent. This will open up your hips and let you throw them into the kick.

If you're just going after a normal lead leg kick, take Chewabacca's advice of the video. I find that to be pretty effective.

I do not fight, spar or train full MMA, so I wouldn't know this, but how come switch kicks would not be very efficient in MMA?

simple..."oh switch kick coming, charge in for take down"

yeah, its really that simple...

A properly executed switch-kick isn't telegraphed and the switching action adds extra power. The energy of the switch is continued into the kick. Many of the best MT/kickboxers switch a lot because of it's effectiveness as a technique.
(And I know that they don't have to worry about takedowns)

Yeah, fighters that are good at switch kicks a) are really fast, and b) only throw them with the proper timing, like after a punch setup or reposition.

Switch kick will help generate power. You can also try stepping off angle (diagonally forward and right) with your rear leg to throw the lead kick. This will help with balance, positioning, and power.

You have a few options for a left kick, a quick stance switch, stepping forward at 45 degrees, or throwing it straight off the ground (whip kick), or simply switching to southpaw for a moment and fighting from there.

That's alot of options, use them to your advantage

Oh and as far as telegraphing the switch....c'mon now anything can be telegraphed if u aint doing it right.

If you are any goddamn good at the kick, the switch will be lightning quick and you'll kick as soon as you switch, one fluid motion.

Just don't telegraph the switch is all, keep your head at the same level, keep your shoulders and hands where they are.. With alot of Thai boxers you don't even notice the switch until it's too late.

There ya go, very little telegraphing.

That being said, i only throw a naked switch kick to mix things up. If i'm gonna switch kick it's usually after a punch or as a counter.

EDIT: Oh yeah, STAY IN RHYTHM, you're opponent is bound to know your gonna kick if you pause and give him the chuck liddel eyes to set up. Dead give away. Work the switch into your fight rhythm.

Do that, but as soon as your lead hits the ground becoming the rear, push off that foot and lift your right foot and move out 45 and as soon as that touches fire the kick and you will get more power out of it. The footwork has to be fast. Its like combining a switch with a step. That's how Buakaw throws his. Make sure to keep your upper body in your original position the whole time tho, swinging your arms for balance and leverage.
