I'm a huge fan of Leandro Lo's game. So, I frequently surf YouTube to study his competition footage. At the same time I desperately hope that people are throwing up some of his seminar footage, because it will probably be a long while before I get to attend one of his seminars or view a dvd release. As everyone knows Lo has been hitting everyone with his hybrid x-control sweep. According to Jiu-Jitsu Laboratory's "lo-graph" ( http://thejiujitsulab.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/lo-graphs.jpg ) his top three most successful sweeps are: 1. Spider-X sweep ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmYtxMjocvY ) 2. X-Guard sweep from spider guard ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhFP6_NE24s ) 3. BUTTERFLY SWEEP!? Yesterday, while watching some of Lo's footage I stumbled upon him demonstrating his butterfly series. I thought that some of you, who are also interested in Lo's game would find these videos pretty cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFSAposspe8&list=UUS3kaL9FipjiCUNVqkM0nTA&index=12 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZy2lKFFt2Y&list=UUS3kaL9FipjiCUNVqkM0nTA&index=11 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlj_7e5b1Y8&list=UUS3kaL9FipjiCUNVqkM0nTA&index=10 I know many of you fortunate Californians may have already been exposed to these techniques, but others might be interested.
If you go on Jiu Jitsu lab's website, there's a great article that breaks down his game. Nvm, I missed that you cited jiu-jitsu lab. Whoops!
This is great stuff. Thanks. I have a spread sheet at home with the matches where he hits the hook sweep from butterfly, I'll have to post those later today.
Awesome! That would be much appreciated. I know I've seen him hit it a couple times just watching footage, but I don't recall which matches those were.
Excellent! Love to see good butterfly sweeps. I am more and more a fan of transitioning from butterfly into a true judo/wrestling type control when your opponent resists the hook sweep, somewhat like Lo shows here.
At Caio Terra's Mundials camp, if you were a blue or lower, it seemed like Lo would exclusively butterfly sweep you
Great thread. I'm a huge fan of Lo and also would really love to see a breakdown of his passing game.
Looks like he had a dlr hook in, one foot on the hip, and both hands on the ankles. So like a variation of a 3 foot/lumberjack sweep.
It looks like he's just hooking both heels with his hands and pushing/letting the guy fall back, a la the "idiot" sweep.
I did a seminar with him and he really focused on the knee thru pass.He has numerous details that make it far different that anyone elses. Then after class when we rolled he effortlessly bullpassed over and over. LOL.
