Balkans are like the Texas of Europe. Too many AKs for anyone not to be on good behaviour, too many volatile people, and the European industrialists know this. A single assault in the Balkans could start a war, and nationalists in other countries would follow suit.

My guess is, the same people who fed them this idea to go to Germany told them to not fuck around until they got there.

Precisely. Usually, I'll be the first to criticize the local petty nationalistic rhetoric and state controlled paramilitary organizations such as football firms but this is one case where their existence has proven to be useful. When you strip it to the bone, it's either the state that should provide protection to its citizens in times like this or such militant organizations. Even allowing people to defend themselves with lethal force would be fair, but it seems to me that Germany is unfortunately stripped of all three options at present time.
