If he would have been able to pull this off, it would have been Sub of the Night for Sure!

Lauzon is known for his leg locks. Miller specifically trained to defend the heel hook, and especially this entry.

I seem to remember Joe going for this move in at least one previous UFC fight, though I can't remember which one.

He tried it against Florian, and one other.

Interesting he posts the arm too. That might or might not be indicative of the Sambo approach to the back scissor sweep, as opposed to the Judo.

lauzon did this in the first round to kyle bradley.

also, he did it to nick the tooth on dana's 155 video blog!

This isn't a move anyone should be aiming to hit in sparring. I'd be pretty pissed if someone went 100% for this on me in sparring.

Beautiful attempt though. If Miller hadnt been able to bail forward to his left he would have been in deep shit, which is why its not a cool move in training cus if you have an inexperienced guy try to spin out against the lock it can shred his knee pretty much.

I had no idea Lauzon was into leg legs, he's never landed one in UFC but has actually been heel hooking fools since 2004 professionally.

it's a sick move, ken did it to frye, funaki did it to mezger and bas rutten..

love the leg locks.

god i wish reaping, heel hooks, and kani basami was legal in bjj :(

no doubt. Though heel hook I don't have a problem with at BB level only.

I remember i would kani basami in wrestling matches when someone tried to single leg me. i thought it was funny yet stupid how world champion black belts arent allowed to do it but high school wrestlers can.

It was executed so beautifully... hand planted, leg over, and everything right. I jumped out of my chair at the bar when he went for it.

It was sick, one of the blue belts from our school (who was watching with us) said, "holy crap I'm going to start drilling and using that!" He got an earful from us :)

I should add, he meant it for bjj, not mma.

miller has some criminally underrated bjj though, i felt like the odds of him getting subbed were pretty slim.

his standup looked awesome though!

Jim has some absolutely incredible BJJ

I was fortunate enough to work with Jim for his camp with Lauzon and we drilled the scissor heel hook entry tirelessly - despite that Joe still had everyone rooting for Jim sweating bullets when he dropped for the leg

I'm not sure how you can do that move without posting your arm. Seems you'd just hit your face on the ground?

Although I know someone who did this and posted wrong, and hurt their shoulder really badly. So you definitely don't want to put too much weight on that post.

I think you'd just launch yourself at their knees. Which is really dangerous.
