Because Democrats assume the political support of any minority and the accusation or racism is designed to stifle opposition.

I've yet to meet people who label national security as racist that will agree to any compromise that doesn't allow for all the illegals to stay and get voting rights. I know this from consistently offering up that I'm all for an amnesty that doesn't bestow voting rights and it's met with no consideration. Usually some bullshit about people not being deprived of voting rights, although plenty of other crimes are used as an excuse to do just that.
