Think I'm about the only person that does these anymore, seeing as you guys are well versed in lifting please tell me I'm wrong in thinking that. Always did them in place of lunges when they got stale. Anyone else do these?

It's just like it sounds

Just put a bar on your back. I use them as an alternative to lunges.

you're describing a lunge....side/lateral lunges....they are still done...

These are not a bad option or alternative to normal lunges.

Not a bad exercise, I used to do them a lot and should go back to them, although I'd actually need to walk the bar out into the middle of my gym as there's a wall next to the platform. Either that or use DBs in the clean position.

Great for aiding flexibility and stressing the adductors.

The biggest problem seems to be keeping the bar horizontal and not tilting it. How much weight did you have on the bar?

You can do them more like squats if you start from a relatively normal squat stance and go to a sumo type stance, then squat. When you get back to the top, or close to it, you can return to the normal stance.

Not sure it would work the hips and groin as much, but much more squat-like.

Good to know I'm not the only one doing these

takes a lot of flexabiity, what kind of weight are you pushing?

155 as far down as I can get, usually hams to calf. It's my high rep finisher after heavy squats.

I use them in my warmup routine (it's the best thing I got out of "Training for Warriors").
