Larry Kudlow fires back at Cory Booker's claim Obama deserves credit for economic recovery

National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow denounced Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., Sunday after the 2020 White House candidate said President Trump was "taking credit for a recovery that started under [former President Barack] Obama."

"What Mr. Booker and some others are saying is simply not true factually," Kudlow told Fox News' "America's News HQ".

Kudlow spoke two days after the publication of the April jobs report, which showed that the American economy added 263,000 jobs last month while the unemployment rate fell to 3.6 percent, the lowest since 1969. Despite the rosy numbers, Booker insisted that the boom's effects were not being felt across all economic levels.

"You have people on my block – I'm the only presidential candidate that lives in a low-income inner-city neighborhood. Talk to folks, and they'll tell you: 'I have to work two jobs just to try to keep myself in housing. And, by the way, that housing isn't reflected in any of my family,'" Booker said on CNN's "State of the Union." "Americans are struggling. Their wages are too low ... for the last four decades, I don't think they've budged that much ... We've got to make sure that this is a shared recovery, because, right now, it definitely is not."

Kudlow emphatically begged to differ.

"I'm just gonna use the damn facts," he told Fox News' Leland Vittert. "On the wage front, [average hourly earnings are] rising 3.2 percent overall. The bottom [poorest] quarter [of workers], 4.4 percent increase, the top quarter, 3.5 percent [increase]."

"First of all, both are good and a rising tide is lifting all boats," Kudlow added. "But the point I'm making is, it's the blue collar people that have the fastest job expansion and it's the blue collar people that have the best wage growth."

Kudlow reacted to the April jobs report in a video posted on the White House's Instagram page Friday afternoon.

"Wow! Low unemployment, high jobs, high wages, big consumer confidence, major productivity and no inflation," said an enthusiastic Kudlow while gesturing toward the camera. "It's totally awesome. We're killing it on the economy."

"I don't know how I had the energy to do that," Kudlow said Sunday. "I just walked out and, I don't know, man, let her rip. These are blowout numbers. The economy is going great guns and POTUS' [Trump's] policies, to be perfectly honest, his policies to rebuild this economy have entered us into a tremendous prosperity cycle. And I don't see any end to it right now."

>>> Been waiting for someone to address this retarded-as-fuck viewpoint regarding the O-Dumbo myth that's been circulating like a giant unflushed turd here. <StannisFrown>

Honestly, the only blue collar people I know that have benefited from Trump's economy, are people that work in construction, and that has more to do with a lack of cheap illegal labor, than anything.

I don't hate the guy, but he sure did keep a steady hand on the wheel.

"Change"

<YeahOKJen>
I don't see the big conspiracy theory that everyone else sees, maybe it is maybe it isn't. I see the man as a coward.
North Korea strategy: "Strategic Patience"
For example.

Here is a list of Blue Collar occupations :

So it's not just Construction workers.

Correct me if I’m wrong but not one GOP member voted for the stimulus package that clearly helped the country have 8 years of economic growth. The republicans were willing to let the entire country burn. History shows that as well.

But I guess it’s easier to make believe he didn’t walk into the greatest financial disaster left by a republican president who nearly bankrupted the country.

Obama? I agree.

And you think a guy working at a mechanic shop is doing significantly better?

FYI, he is bragging about 3% wage growth, when inflation averages 3%. So, yeah, good for wages not losing ground for the first time in decades, I guess.

Obama? I agree.
The disappointment of that administration led the Trump. Every single person that I know of that voted for Obama, voted for Trump in 2016. I'm from Indiana. Very regressive state but not every single person here is an idiot.

Just 99% or so.
(Nb4 the TDS affected correct me with 99.5%. I couldn't possibly argue with that number.)

If by recovery you mean stopping things getting worse in 08 he gets a little gold clap for dong the bare minimum necessary. If by recovery you're trying to say today's economy is good cause the stock market is going up which means more labor is being extracted from the first of the US, then I don't know what the fuck planet he's living on.

He stole money from the people and is literally using the receipt as a cause for those people to celebrate. And they are doing it!

What do you expect ffs?

10%? 20%?

You really need a reality check bro.

And yes, a mechanic is certainly better off under trump. People have money to spend, maybe on a nice classic car. You know, those don’t fix/build themselves.

Look...Even I voted for Obama but I voted more out of the NOVELTY of having the First Black President.

After he proved that Novelty Acts are just that....ACTS, I went in a different direction and voted Trump.

I can't say it was all novelty for me, I really wasn't a fan of Bush (nor am I a fan of any of these families electing multiple members to power)
But I feel as a country we were looking for change. We were still looking for in 2016. That's an Obama failure and a part of the reason people were angry.

People are not going to be any less angry when change continues to be stalled or stopped... and if people thought Trump was a surprise they should wait and see what's going to happen in the next 10 years or so.

He deserves some. Hard to deny that.

4-5% would be great. Then we could actually say we have real wage growth.

Hey, the three richest men in the US can now own as much wealth as the entire bottom 160 million. As long as most of that 160 million are seeing an extra $5 a week in their paychecks.

And if you criticize the economic policies that produce this scenario what you're really saying is that you don't want to see average working people making more money.

What a hack that guy is. Mentioning a 3% wage growth when he very well knows that it's barely keeping up with inflation, as well as prices on goods far outpacing wages. Add to that the trend in wealth inequality continously rising, aided by Trumps tax cuts which where basicly used for stock bybacks under capital gains. Completely dishonest.

Yes, unemployment is low and that is good! It's however a trend that is the same all around the world because the global economy has recovered from the great recession. Still good! Doesn't mean that there's not some major, and increasingly alarming, issues going on. Middle class buying power keeps going down.

On topic, yes Obama deserves some credit, as does Trump. Truth is that both administrations were/are bad for the middle class.
