anybody train in this art? I'm about to check out a kyokushin school. is i like what i see i'll be signing up very soon. i train boxing, juijitsu and some muay thai right now but have always wanted to do karate. will i be far behind the other karate students or about the same? i've been training for 4 months.

if u mix it with boxing its good combo, kyokushin is strong , and no how u gona be as good as someone who done it for 5 years when u trained 4 months

Machida and GSP are both black belts in KK.Very Effective.Machida uses it alot.

Ummm...Machida doesn't use Kyokushin at all. He trains Shotokan. In terms of karate-do, they are on opposite sides of the spectrum. Shotokan is all about distance as well as blocking and countering. Kyukoshin is far more straight ahead and aggressive.

Check for videos of each online and you'll quickly see the difference.

Yes, they have some awsome kicks to add to your aresenal.

yeah gsp is a black belt in it, It has several offshoots that are used for kickboxing as well. Good stuff

Shotokan has some nice full contact fighting as well.

Full contact POINT sparring. In other words, you throw the techniques at full power, but once someone lands a good shot, the karatekas are separated and start over.

Kyokushinkai, on the other hand, uses knockdown karate rules, where you keep going until someone is put down by a particular technique.

El Guapo is also a Kyokushin Black Belt. As is Michael Jai White (Spawn/Dark Knight).

yes it can, just make sure you get to a school that spars hard and trains hard

for the TS, ive been Kyokushin for years but now im training KUDO(Kyokushin and Judo(kosen)).

For your info, everyone who enters Kyokushin dojo whether you are a professional muay thai fighter or kickboxer you will always be a white belt. Youve got to know the basic stances, and know how to throw those mawashi geri(round house). 4 months of training in Muay thai doesn't mean you can be ahead. Its still considered whitebelts. 4 months of training in Muay Thai is also considered beginners. Some dojos actually held promotions every 3 months. Kumite(sparrings), trainings(push-ups-situps) depends on your sensei. If you pass that then you will be accelerated. For the fact that ive started kickboxing for 2 years before going to kyokushin, Is I don't have hard time switching except for those advance kicks. Ive received my black belt in just 1 1/2 years, training 6x a week and 3 hours a day. One thing that Karate has that some MA dont have is the kata. I dont really believe in the Kata thing but when you enter a kyokushin or any karate dojo its really present there. its not called karate without kata, so I accept it and just go on. I just think Kata is a form of warmup. When it comes to conditioning your body. Kyokushin is the best for me. Youve gotta learn to accept those hard body punches. Those bareknuckle punches really hurt like a bomb. If you are interested ask your sensei about the Fighter training.

One thing more, if you are in America.. Some Kyokushin dojos are mcdojos, so you better analyze your sensei first if his really credible. But if you live in Brazil. Try the ISobe Dojo where Filho, Texeira and Feitosa train. I train in Japan where the Kyokushin root is really present and the training is really hard.

a black belt in 1.5 years, thats a mcdojo.

Mcdojo in Japan?? are you kidding me... Kancho Royama got his black belt in less than a year because of his strong Judo background. Matsui got his black belt in less than a year. If you know the stances, basics and know how to kick your own colors belt karate then you can be upgraded. Its up to your sensei. IF you dont know, you can skip other belts if your sensei see that your more than the belt your wearing. And for the fact i am not a so called sherdog martial artist who trains 2x a week for 2 hours a day or less. Ive train 6x a week for 3 or 4 hours a day. While some here thinks they train for 4 months in just only 2x a week then they began thinking they are professional fighters.

You still have to do the time before you get your belt.

My coach was a national champion after just 1 year of training, but he got his black belt after 5 years.

I train in kyokushin karate as part of my mma preparation. I got a real good sensei and good senpais, after class I always do some padwork or additional sparring, often with headpunches. They know I train for MMA and they support me.

Let them know what you are training for and most likely they will support you.

And don't care about the belt, but since you come from BJJ, I'm sure you do not anyway.

Good luck.

Oh, be sure to check out Kyokushin4life - The Knockdown Karate Community too ;-)
