Kyle Dake will be a future UFC champion

I can't see embedded vids on my phone but I assume he'll be putting that Cornell degree to use while pursuing Freestyle or Greco.

Yep that's what he said... he did say he would consider it if he had to... but having an economics degree from Cornell gives him plenty of lucrative avenues to go down... if money making money becomes his main objective after his wrestling career is done

Depends on future of wrestling, but he's probably aiming for world championships and Rio 2016. Sponsorships plus living the dream fund if he medals, he wouldn't need MMA.

dafuq? If its money he's after he would have to go to mma. He's one of the most successful college wrestlers ever, no? He can do economics of whatever later in his life anyway.

Cael Sanderson's base salary is $175k. I think I read at some point he was making over $400k per year coaching and running clinics. That is probably better than all but a very few MMA fighters. And you don't have to get get injured and do things you don't want to do, and your career lasts much longer. And apparently he is pretty smart too, with that Ivy league degree an all.

I would be shocked if he went into MMA, given all of his other options.

Hopefully he stays in wrestling. I hate to see the big stars of their sport (wrestling/BJJ whatever) leave the sport.

Dake doesn't strike me as the type to get into MMA. Ed Ruth on the other hand....

The question is can he bump to 185, transition to Greco or beat Burroughs?

Not everyone likes fighting.

He might like Econ a lot in which case he could continue wrestling while pursuing a phd.

If he starts his career in the business world, he will still make more than starting in MMA..especially with a degree from Cornell and ex wrestlers who are successful businessman will take a hard look at the kid if he wants a job.
And with the right company and his hard wrestling work ethics translated into his business career, he will also make more money in the long run.

I think people forget only a small number of MMA fighters actually make a solid career where they don't really have to worry about money. Rest of the fighters are living from fight pay check to fight pay check.

If it's money, he will go work for a large firm.
If it's fame, he will go for MMA.

I disagree, it takes a long time and a lot of hard work to have a decent salary in MMA.
Unless you're a big UFC star, you don't earn that much compared to what you have to do. And being a great college wrestler doesn't mean you will be a great MMA fighter.
With his degree, he can have a good/very good salary that he will have each month no matter what.

He is not going into MMA. He most likely takes a volunteer assistant position with the Cornell team or a coaching job with the Finger Lakes Wrestling club while training freestyle. He will be the best recruiting tool the Cornell team has ever had. I also don't think he goes Greco or moves up to 84kg. I think he goes directly for JB. I doubt he does it this year but it wouldn't shock me to see him make it happen by 2016. Either way having the two of them at 74 kg can only be a good thing for USA wrestling.

not explosive enough.

Seriously? Have you ever seen his mat returns?

The explosive thing is a joke meaning he's white.

Could JB bump up to 84kg?.. Maybe he owes Dake for persuading him to go up to 165lbs lol... But wouldn't the best thing for USA wrestling taking the strongest team possible into the worlds and Olympics?.. After all, technically it is Team USA chasing them medals... what if they could both get golds, how great would that be?

I see David Taylor as more of the MMA type actually. His squirrelly takedowns and finishing moves would suggest a guy who'd be able to take anybody down from MMA range, and also a guy who'd take well to jiu-jitsu. But as somebody mentioned above, I think the biggest factor with anybody who wants to do MMA is you have to really WANT to fight.

I think JB is too small.

Also I think if Ruth decides to do freestyle he's a better wrestler than Dake. You also have Quentin Wright who has to decide between 211 and 185.

It takes much more than just awesome wrestling to be an MMA champion. Tons of top wrestlers and judoka have flamed out because they don't have the aptitude for striking or the mental fortitude to deal with an MMA environment.

As incredibly tough as wrestling is, there is just something about real punches being thrown that dramatically changes the psychological equation.

Also, tho the guys who know wrestling would know this better, lots of dominant wrestlers don't adapt well because their particular style of wrestling is unsuited to MMA.
