Kron Gracie

Do you think tonon wouldn’t have wrecked Caceres too? I mean yeah I agree he’s been fucking around with his striking, but I kind of guessed he was just getting time in the cage, I think at this stage Gary fucks kron up, Gary carries some sick power on his punches

I don't think Garry would have necessarily beaten Caceres, and I don't know that he'd beat Kron either. I haven't really seen enough of Kron's striking to know for sure, but I really wasn't very impressed by what Tonon was doing on the feet in his last few fights. Caceres is a UFC journeyman, but that still puts him worlds better than anyone Garry's fought and if he tried to mess around with him on the feet I think Alex would probably knock him out.

Kron's opposition has been way, way better than Tonon's thus far. He's young in his career, but he's proven a lot more than Garry has.

Anyone who beats caceres in one round is no joke.

Right? People are acting like Kron just beat some washed can, but Caceres is a long time UFC vet with multiple wins in the promotion. He's not an easy fight for anyone outside the UFC top 10. I'm not sure folks really know how good you have to be just to stick around in the UFC even if you aren't contending for titles.

He looked terrific, but the fight was so short that it didn't answer many questions. He dropped a nice 1-2 as he closed the distance and his wrestling looked solid. Caceres was doing the right things to defend the body lock, he's a seasoned vet, Kron was able to implement his game plan anyway. This was a very good win. His biggest problem most likely is that he's in arguably the deepest division in the UFC so he's not going to get much in the way of prospect fights. He'll end up fighting someone like Darren Elkins or Korean Zombie waaaaay too early in his career and get wrecked. He should probably be 5 fights away from a top 15 opponent, but if he wins one more I bet they throw him in with someone at the bottom of the top 15.

i think this fast-tracking could actually work to his advantage because he already has one skill that could beat anybody in the world on a given day, and a direct approach that violates many accepted modern MMA norms. You want him in those Maia vs. Matt Brown type fights as soon as possible imo

I think Tonon has a longer development curve than Kron. Tonon seems to be developing an all-around game centered around creating angles on the feet to wrestle into submissions, whereas Kron already knows how he expects to win fights. Tonon actually reminds me more of a rich man's Alex Caceres than the Maia/Kron/Neiman ultraspecialist approach.

Caceres took Yair to a close decision, he’s way better than most give him credit for.

Kron has beaten better guys on kawajiri and Caceres, but i really really don’t think kron is going to sub tonon in mma, and Gary has much more power than kron. Gary does some goofy looking stuff while standing, but he has a heavy right hand.

Caceres is good, but it’s tailor made for a grappler to grapplefuck him, tonon would’ve done the same, although as you said, if he wanted to fuck around with Caceres while standing, he would’ve gotten ktfo probably

I love purists. I love the essence of BJJ. It will never hold the reign it once did. But I don't care. WAR KRON!

Kron was an absolute beast. I just wish he could go train takedowns with Khabib for 12 months. He would be unbeatable.

Yeah, thats a big reason im not really that hyped about him training with the Diaz bros...

High dive/duck under is a good technique.

I don't really like that whole frontside grapevine of the leg a lot of bjj guys seem to try to do when they have the back on the feet; you want to attack the back angle, and thats the opposite of attacking the back angle, it's moving yourself back towards the front, actually.

Isn't the goal of that to take the back directly instead of just taking the guy down.

I don’t know, it could be a good thing takedown-wise... training all the time with Nate Diaz, means you’re also going to get training in with this guy

Also the way Renzo took Yuki’s back.

It’s totally legit as a backtake from standing position.

he threw a couple of good power shots vs caceres, and legit wrestled his way to the back. also, his aggressively fundamental bjj style is tricky to train for, just like Maia's was-- his opponents will need to have very disciplined wrestling defense to avoid engaging Kron's closed guard.
Or the ability to throw a jab.

From what it sounded like in his post and pre match interviews, he does most of his training at his gym with his students. He doesn't even have a real camp with real coaches.

Not a good strategy once he starts fighting elite guys..

Kron has had like five fights and people are already judging his career... love it lol
He looks like has improved every fight. He will do just enough in standing to take the fight to the ground. Don't think he will ever try to be a knock out artist. He is all about getting submissions.
So far, Kron has look good for how long he has been in the MMA game. Some of guys think a person can just pick up MMA training and should be a world class striker... GTFO.

I'm under the impression a lot of the people on the internet judge explosive people just trading punches with a limited skill set a lot better then grapplers using their partial striking to get the takedown.

We don't want him to be a World class striker. We want him to be a World Class wrestler so he can always take the fight to his domain.

Trying to strike and connect it with takedowns rather then just being laser focused on a takedown seems like a better long term strategy. In the short term I would guess it's a lot worse as it gives more chances for crap opponents to connect with a lucky punch or something on the feet.
Makes you appreciate what Damian Maia was doing in his prime. Outside of stinging Mark Munoz with a straight left his striking was never anything to worry about. You knew his takedown was coming but still couldn't stop it.

he will be fine
He hasn't been training that long and he has good people around him.
think Jake Shields and Gilbert Mendez can get him to an improved level. after that I'm sure he will seek out other coaches to improve.

This. I want to see him go against world class strikers take them to the ground and go from there.
