i've recently been hitting this trip a lot, i love it. It's not an issue when i do judo, but when i do bjj i find myself in top half-guard or just land in the other guys guard. does anyone have advice on how to kosoto gake and staying outside for side control?

Are you driving them back, or are you doing it when they are moving towards you? I guess it doesn't really matter much...but if you're just hooking the leg and pushing them back then you are doing it wrong. :)

After hooking that leg you should be able to do pretty much what you want with his upper body. Since you're taking the weight from one side of him he should have the motion to turn and fall to that side. Your hands should be able to assist in turning him a bit, but ultimately you should be able to easily land in yoko shiho/side control

Can you post a vid? Makes it infinitely easier to offer specific advice.

If you're throwing ko soto gake, you're almost always going to end up in half guard since your outside leg is planted. IMO, with ko soto GARI, you can pass on the way down. Your middle leg becomes weightless as you both fall.

yeah i don't have a vid of me doing the throw. i think my kuzushi is wrong, since i'm just hooking the leg and pushing.

I have bad experiences from kosoto gake, it can easily be turned into a mean uchimata if you do it against the pendulum leg of a good player.
