Just got home from a 6 day stay at the hosptial getting my 2nd TKR and thought I'd share a pic of it. They didn't put me under so I was able to see what bone smells like as it's being sawed off the body and I heard all 15+ whacks of a 3 lbs hammer they put to the ends. Glad I'm home and have no more knees to replace.

I know lol.
It's pretty painful and is gonna take a while to heal but I can say the pain is no where near the frist one I had. And thanks, it will turn out fine. I worked hard on the last one and gonna do the same for this one.

that smell of burning bone is not good.

Did you have OA? Is that why you needed the knee replacement?

Motherfucker!

I'm trying to Avoid knee replacements. Had a stem cell treatment a couple weeks ago. Was skeptical but was like WTF, why not.

I'm more surprised with the result than I thought I'd be. I may get 2 more treatments to see how close to normal I can get my bashed up knee.

Looked like a shot of old dishwater and olive oil.

$1800 a treatment since BlueCross Federal plan won't cover it.

How old are you Cogs?

Which parts of the knee did they replace? Do you have a artificial meniscus, acl, mcl, patella now? What exactly does a TKR entail?

What third world country are you in? I've had both knees done and spent 3 days in the hospital both times. The first knee was replaced with a joint that was inserted into the bone. The second was glued to the bone and recovery was much easier. I was off work for 6 weeks both times. I had both knees scoped first to take out cartilage and bone chips. After putting up with the pain for nearly 20 years it was good to get rid of that. I don't know if it was the surgeon or the insurance company that wanted to wait as long as possible and try the injections first. After surgery, the doctor told me I had worn off nearly 1/2 inch of bone and they should have been replaced 10 years sooner.

After the first one, the physical therapist didn't want me to go home because I live alone. I had to prove to her that I could dress myself and climb stairs. I had to go to physical therapy a week after then they told me I didn't need to have any more. The second time, she walked into the room, saw it was me and told them if I thought I was ready, I could go home and asked me if I needed to come in for therapy. I told her I was good. They wanted me to be able to bend the knee to at least 60 degrees. I could bend it 90 degrees the afternoon of the day I had surgery. You have to keep bending it and walking on it or scar tissue forms and it hurts to bend it.

So much this.

I'm a care giver to my grandparents and I work in a gym with a ton of seniors.

There are three people that come to mind. My grandfather at 88 who's surgery was pretty much a failure because he stopped doing his excercises and continues to have pain, a 49 year old trainer that seemed to be fine after a couple months and he's back on track and this old lady at the gym who's 80 years old and she was out and about within a month.

She faired the best. Do not, I repeat, do not neglect those bending excercises and walking.

I would be interested if pre- and post- MR scans show any articulate cartilage growth.

How did you fuck up yoru knees, big fat guy, athlete?

Me too. The goon said, (claimed possible show on Xray) My knee was showing improvement, (I straightened out the leg for 1st time since 2012) but then I was humpin the wife and things got outa hand on the hardwood floor, (I was standing on it). I shouldn't have done that. Now I'm in a setback. I'm going to take it more easy for a while then try another shot maybe in December.

I had coworkers who had the stem cell injections. They said they worked great

Having rehabbed dozens of TKR including my father's , they suck ass. Speedy recovery.

I suspected it would be a waste, but so far its been quite positive. Beating expectations at least. Need a few more months to really tell.

Ouch. Enjoy your time on the internet, especially here. Hope you're able to stay positive throughout your recovery.

6 days seems like a lot? Were there complications? I did a few clinical's on a Med-Surg unit and TKR's were usually around a 3 day stay
