So last year the Kimura Trap System DVD was the big thing. The whole concept of using the kimura to defeat guys, like wrestlers, with tremendous top game. It was a big deal to get your hands on that DVD.

So a about a year later, now that people actually have had a chance to master the techniques, have people been able to rate their effectiveness? They seem like an innovative way to work of a basic move, the kimura, to effective ways to get off your back or attack in ways they might not see coming.

What are everybody's longitudinal reactions?

I think everyone backed away after the Avellan brothers felt fine being rape apologists and the fact that the information was available long ago by Chris Brennan.

lol wtf? how was it the big thing? It wasn't a big deal to get your hands on that dvd, and there was nothing revolutionary or special about their system either. Moreover, most people that got the set were disappointed with the lack of content.

smh.

not so sure how it was a big thing...but I still use it against the single leg

They're not new techniques. Everyody's been using them for years, even some wrestlers. Nobody's ever made a system out of just using the kimura, tho, except maybe Karo.

Yeah, tho, anybody who is buddies with Lloyd Irvin can shove a huge metal spike up their urethra.

Uh ... wtf, did people actually believe the marketing hype? It was a complete non-event in the broader instructional world.

No, not one single person bought into their bullsh*t. There's a reason hardly anybody uses those techniques.

My old review of it is still up. I thought it was solid, but solid did not justify the extremely high price.

I watched it once through. Then I sent it back for a refund. I did not end up making any major changes to my game because of it.

For what it's worth, they were very professional and classy with the customer service throughout the whole process. I think at this point that has been completely overcome by events due to their continued support of Lloyd Irvin, but I still had a good experience dealing with them on that particular product.

Had a purple belt that was in to it. I don't think it was all that great. Annoying if anything. As they tired themselves out trying to kimura sweep you. Which really only works when you have momentum to do so

Wow, it already has been a year? I don't remember it being that big of a deal. I remember everyone griping about the marketing system.

Well.. wrestling got booted from the Olympics.

So, I guess it caught on.

So they actually gave you a refund? Now that's something :icon_excl

Which dvd by brennan?

King of the Kimura. Damn site cheaper then Avellan's stuff.

KotK, Billy Robinson's DWL dvd, Karo's Kimura section on his Judo for MMA, and Erik Paulson's Killer Chicken Wings and Advanced Killer Chickenwings provide more details and options for people. You could probably buy all of those and collectively get better value for money than the Avellan stuff.
