Ar first sight MMA fans were pissed of this weird match up. One of the best LWs around against a newcomer to the UFC. But it makes total sense:

1. Khabib would have a "warm-up" fight after hus long layoff.

2. Khabib needs to get some cash.

3. Khabib and the UFC expect to have an easy, fast, harmless fight, so The Eagle would be available to fight after a few months against a real contender: Ferguson or RDA.
 
Honestly I could care less who Khabib is fighting.

I'm just happy he's fighting in general.

Top contender in the division vs some dude I've never even heard of.

The guy needs a fight. just because Cruz took mizugaki and tj in his comebacks doesn't mean everyone needs to do that off long layoffs. Sherdoggers need to get on bored with tune up fights and showcases, especially when they have 2-3 fight cards a month
 
it's been so long since Khabib has been in the cage
glad he wasn't dropped from the card due to late injury pullout
this new guy has a chance to make a name for himself now
Khabib can shake off the rust

Would have been more interesting if the guy was a no name with little experience etc BUT was a very high level wrestler.

Yeah, like a LW version of Pat Cummins (when he came to the UFC to fight Cormier). Too bad there's not such a LW.
 
Yeah, sure. Khabib needs a warmup fight. Maybe he'll make a fast turn-around and fight Ferguson. Of course a "fast turn-around" for Khabib would be a year and a half now.

As far as I can tell pretty much every fighter has ducked Khabib. And I'm completely neutral on the guy. But, he can't force a pro fighter to sign on the dotted line.

So, stay healthy, and keep winning. These guys can't duck top contenders, forever.

Good on this kid for taking the fight. It's the biggest opportunity of his career.

Just like OSP. Take your shot. Even if you fail. You had the balls to try.
