This is actually a great interview
Whoever these guys are, they converse much much better than MMA journalists
Some of the topics/questions (I haven't finished washing yet and this is just scratching the surface):
- he didn't tell anyone, including his team, about his decision to retire until he announced it
- why he jumped the cage after fighting Conor, whether he regrets it now or not
- which of his fights were tough (he admits Conor fight was tough but says more so the mental aspect of it, otherwise physically he expected more of a challenge...also says Gaethje fight was tough mentally (because of his father's passing) but none of his opponents, Gaethje included, physically felt to be on a similar level as him)
- what he thinks of challenges against fighters he never faced...doesn't care when some say so-and-so could beat Khabib if Khabib didn't retire, says that's what everyone was saying about Gaethje and several of his past opponents too...there will always be someone who fans believe can beat him
- talks about how he never got physically hurt much in his fights, never bruised or cut...but some injuries during training because of how hard he trained
- what he thinks of Islam's future (says he thinks he'll continue being the top LW from now to 2025
- when Putin called him after the Conor fight (said he was locked in the locker room for 2 hours by police and he got a call from his father as a surprise giving him a heads up that he's about to get a fall from Putin)
