It will be some time before they know if it polluted the ground water.
Who would ever have thought that the pipeline could leak!
Latest update: October 31, 2019 at 12 p.m. MST
Emergency crews remain focused on responding to our release and have begun recovering oil, using vac trucks, backhoes and other specialized equipment on-site to assist in the recovery efforts. The approximate size of the impacted area is 2,500 yd2 or less than half the size of a football field.
TC Energy is continuing to work with regulatory agencies and provided them with an initial estimate that 9,120 bbls of oil were released; approximately half the size of an Olympic-sized swimming pool. As part of our reporting responsibilities to the National Response Center (NRC) and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), it is necessary to provide an initial estimate of the reportable spill’s volume within the first hour of discovery. To do that, TC Energy has developed a volume estimating methodology that is based on initial measurements of the length, width, depth and estimated concentration of the visible product on the surface. We will not have the exact figure until oil recovery has been completed.
Our crews will remain focused on oil recovery and then prepare to make repairs to the pipeline. We will provide updates as they become available.
