Kevin Lee In Bangkok

Respect for trying and enjoying

If you haven't already done this, use your hands to eat it in combination with sticky rice, like local Northeast Thais do. Nothing better.
That's it. it's so tasty, those Thai's really know how to cook. is it bad that I went back and got more of it after I finished my first salad? and yea, I ought to try that out sometime. who knows when I'll go back though.

It's the highest compliment to a Thai food establishment if you order another plate of the same thing. Thais do that all the time.

Meh... Cambodia is 10 times better

<Wink>
Thailand is like the SEA novice kit, when you move on to Cambodia it’s almost scary, I was propositioned before I got to my hotel in PP for an assortment of substances, shooting an RPG, and really young girls. Cool for a single guy, not so much for myself who traveled for work.

I've been told by experienced travelers that Thailand is a good country for less experienced travelers to go to because more people speak English, it's safe, Thais tend to be very patient and tolerant, etc. They say that Vietnam or Cambodia are good places to go after that...
Read this after I replied to you, said Thailand is the Southeast Asia starter kit...

i miss thailand, going to try and go back soon.

Siem Reap is the city you want to travel to first if you want to go to Cambodia. More English is spoken there and they have more tourists attractions. It’s also the city where the ancient Angkor Wat temples are located. You want to visit Pub Street for the night life too. If anyone wants info on travel there from a Cambodian, PM me. My parents managed to survive the killing fields and bring me here to America. Very few here still speak the language..

Good for Kevin Lee, I'm low key kinda jelly, I was way too young when we lived over in that part of the world (Tokyo, Hong Kong) to really remember it.

I know trash talk and hype are what sells, but a nice lil video like this .. does more.

Love the street food, one of my fav's was larb pla duk and it's a catfish salad. damn I could literally live off of street food if I could, probably one of the best things about Thailand other than the landscape and training.
You can get kebabs in Ayutthaya for 10 baht. That's about $0.31 US. I seriously want to move there.

I appreciate the insight, thank you. :)

I like your Full Metal Jacket reference.

If anyone is interested - Muay Thai, like Thailand, is highly corrupt. Only the Thais who've had good success at fighting outside of Thailand are guaranteed legit, because any given match in Thailand can be fixed, even at the highest level. Jaroenthong Kiatbanchong is legit, but most if not all of those matches at Rajadamnern Stadium...questionable, at least the matches between two Thai fighters.

I've had a home in Thailand for 12 years, and follow Muay Thai there, so I know (or think I know) a few things.

complete nonsense. Gamblers call out bullshit when it happens. I've seen a dive of two and couple fighters being poisened, but that's a very miniscule percentage of fighters. Rajadamnern and Lumpinee are what represents the highest level of the sport. You literally have no idea, what you are talking about.

No, Samart Payakaroon - one of the great Muay Thai fighters of all time - literally has no idea what HE'S talking about. I was just passing on his words. If you understand Thai you'll get more out of this interview, but the subtitles at least don't suck.

I watched that a couple times already and I'm thai. He does at no point talk about corruption through gamblers. He talks about how scoring has changed to a more clinching heavy fighting style, and away from artistry and striking thanks to the gamblers. talking about how big "bosses" are seen as favorite is just talk.

when did you see the last robbery in a stadium? There is at least one every UFC event. Today there was a Rajadamnern event and a event at Rangsit. please show me the corruption.

Also your point about thai fighters having to legitimise themselves by fighting out of thailand is a joke, when every decent thai switching over to kickboxing is automatically top 10 in that weight class without adopting much. Sittichai didn't achieve much in Thailand, and is now p4p king of kickboxing.

OK, then I misunderstood. I will erase my post that you didn't like, if you'd like me to.

When Samart said that if you want to watch real Muay Thai then you have to watch foreigners, that was sad.

As for robberies, I used to like to attend Muay Thai events upcountry from time to time, and I often wondered why certain fighters won when it seemed obvious to me that they had lost. There were always gamblers present, so I thought maybe that had something to do with it, that local organized crime (also known as the government in Thailand) fixed the matches somewhat. This was my own extrapolation, I'll admit. No proof. But there is so much corruption in Thailand, it sort of made sense. To me. I would never be a regular at Rajadamnern because of what I have perceived as dubious judging sometimes. At Lumpinee....maybe that's completely legit, except for the scamming taxi drivers. VERY rarely have I thought that a UFC win was a robbery. That happens maybe once a year, for me.

Anyway, I will erase my post that you didn't like. Let me know.

Could care less, just making sure you got it right. The top fighters of this year are all knockout specialists, so even then Samarts argument doesn’t hold much value. Gamblers are always present, for the better or worse. Theres no gambler union, they’re are all independent. If one sees bullshit happening, everyone will sure call it out. It‘s all serious business in the Bangkok Stadiums.

Kevin is really growing on me. I think he has handled his rise in popularity very well (compared to you know who). Seems to be a really good guy.

Compared to a $100m Megastar? Who puts the C in UFC?

Horrible comparison.
