I always feel like each ref has a large discretionary gray area with which to work, like how much should I / shouldn't I punish the fighter based on my opinions of dynamic action. Intentional fouls are one thing but what is clearly deemed unintentional should be more clear cut by the rules.
I wonder if they could institute something like a definitive 3 strike system for unintentional fouls that interrupt the action like an eye poke or groin shot.
Strike 1-- assuming the opponent can continue-- a warning, [or the super special herb dean hard warning because he really means it]
Strike 2-- assuming the opponent can continue-- automatic point deduction
Strike 3-- DQ
Yeah, I know it's pretty much this anyway, but is it laid out specifically in the rules? It seems different fights have different consequences.
Of course, 3 rounds vs 5 rounds makes a difference here. Also, sometimes there are rapid fire punches to the back of the head which could make that difficult.
I just hate when I see something like repeated cup shots and you could almost see the thought bubble above the ref's head ((Hmmm... how should I handle this...))
