ken florian-standup-questionable boxing

by the way, are they fighting? huerta and Florian? That would be a pretty good fight. I'd go for Huerta even though he's BJJ isn't Florian's level.

i have kenny taking huerta to school.

I kind of take issue with making a whole topic about a guy who obviously doesn't have the best hands. He was a ground specialist with a BJJ blackbelt, and he's recently focused on Muay Thai. Is it any damn mystery why he doesn't have the crispest boxing? He has some of the better (if not best) roundhouses in the UFC LW division. If he had focused on boxing instead, you'd probably be making a topic about how he's lacking the kicking department.

How about this. Masato should work on his kicking more, and Buakaw should do more boxing...

Discussion is what this forum is for man.

amazing how he can improve MT and wrestling but not boxing. its not like he doesn't work on his boxing...i think the question is why haven't his hands improved as much as other aspects of the game.

its a quality question from the TS and what the ST forum is all about.

personally i like to disect fighters. improves my game.

i concur my own game both application and theory improves from being able to a)spar/train and b)systematically dissect and breakdown a fighters tech, strategy and application...

im not bashing kenny, im a kenny fan; but it is a hole in his game, one he hasn't addressed eff yet and i think i showed two clear examples of such.

i don't think that kenny needs to become a better offensive boxer.. I do think that his boxing defence should be tighter though. Look, kenny will never have ko power in his hands and him exchaning punch per punch (not brawling, just boxing and trading punches) is a no win situation for him (no matter how tough his chin his). So he did the smart thing and worked on his muay thai.

As for Roger... Come on if Leben couldn't knock out kenny how is Roger gonna do it? Is roger gonna pass kenny's guard? No. Is roger going to be able to controll kenny on the ground? No. So even if he takes kenny down he will end up in kenny's guard getting elbowed in the face/head, getting submitted, or getting swept. The only way i see roger winning this fight is if for some unknown reason kenny decides that he is in a boxing match and abandon's his muay thai. Roger might get his shots in with punches but kenny will elbow/kick/knee him.

i agree w/u-im just saying its a hole in his game that needs to be filled for him to cross the line to top tier guy, if i have fig it out then im sure any trainer or fighter w/a good eye has; an in two sep instances he has been caught cleanly coming in/going out w/short hooks on the inside. That just can't happen, to be causght w/the same shot in two sep instances over a year apart shows a lack of dev; an i think it can make easy fights diff, even fights losses and losses turn into blowouts.

i like kenny and think he is one of the better guys, but good footwork, aggression and wrestling; can diffuse alot of what he likes to do, an someone w/educated hands can cut him up on the inside and even close the dist and get to kenny. The guys who have landed and hurt him lacked the overall skill or confidence to assert themselves and open up or follow through; their lack of footwork didn't allow them to step w/florian and land, an their lack of tech/aggression didn't allow them to extend the combo or punch and move. ITS KENNYS OPP LACK OF SKILL that let him off the hook, not anything he did.

i think he should tighten up his def and at least have a functional use of his hands; if ur never a threat w/ur hands it will be noticed and it will be taken adv of, maybe huerta is not good enough to make it a diff. But stevenson, penn, sherk are...
