Kelvin Gastelum needs help....

Why are some people so convinced that if people just got as skinny as possible for their height(not even frame) they'd somehow be more successful?

You know what's crazy about KG not being able to make WW is how small his legs are. He must carry a crazy amount of mass in his upper body in general.

Whilst i'm not necessarily disagreeing with you..... I am just wondering if you knew that Kelvin Gastelum HAS in fact fought SIX times at 170lbs for the UFC.
Against :
Melancon (won)
Story (won)
Musoke (Won)
Ellenberger (Won)
Magny (Split decision loss)
Hendricks (won)
He only missed weight ONCE at 170lbs (against Musoke).
He won FIVE of those six fights at 170lbs.

So...just making sure you're aware that he has made 170lbs *many* times and each time (Except one) he has won the fight.

So to say "He could probably make 170" is very misleading. he HAS multiple times and won all those fights except one (split loss).
Gastelum should have stayed at 170lbs in my view, but he can't stay away from his momma's high-carb high-cal foods.(he has admitted that).
His Woodley fight was also 170. And he missed weight and lost

Not only is he undersized. He looked way out of shape for his standards last Saturday. He was plodding and pausing all the time. Didn't have the technique or energy too generate offense.

It's obvious that Kelvin should have been at 170 all along. He wasn't exactly ripped at 170, and he's flat out pudgy at 185. And stylistically, he's primarily a boxer who likes to sit in the pocket and exchange punches. That's problematic at 185 because he's always at a height and reach disadvantage.

And while some people seem inclined to compare Kelvin's body type to DC's, it's a very flawed comparison because they have completely different styles. DC is a grinding wrestler who uses his weight to wear people down. Kelvin can wrestle a bit, but he's primarily a boxer; being short and pudgy isn't conducive to his fighting style.

He MAY have been able to do 155 if that was his goal from the start now that ship has sailed.

if 175 ever happens we might see that Kelvin

He arguably beat Tyron after he was discharged from the hospital the day before & shouldn't have been cleared to fight.

Kelvin would easily be top 5 at 170.

People have different body types. Kelvin is an extreme endomorph, he's just naturally an extremely thick dude. You're just basing it off of his height and assuming that just because he's 5'9" and other 5'9" guys can make 155, he could too, which makes zero sense. In reality he could never, ever make 155 without cutting off a leg. He can make 170 with a very strict diet and a tough cut, but some guys just don't feel as good when they're cutting weight. People make the same argument with guys like DC, Fedor, etc. Some dudes are just thicker and it's not realistic to assume they could somehow change their body type and move down weight classes without severely impacting their performance.
Well, his nutritionist said outright that he can make 155, so I tend to believe that guy over sherdog.

TS you really going in on Kelvin recently, you ok?

It really is weird how undisciplined he is for a professional athlete, who obviously has a crazy competitive spirit in him.

Really don't get it, he should be able to make Welterweight easy as well if he started dedicating himself more to the craft, but seems like burritos are more important than his career.

Successful fighters don't carry 30 lbs of flab outside of HW.

Not every fighter can maintain a Bernard Hopkins discipline to diet and lifestyle; Hopkins would wear a turtle neck sweater in his house at all times, he'd be worried about catching a cold, in his own fucking house lol.
Imo, the discipline to train is easier than the discipline to diet.

Man looks like this at 170 and still looked puffy. At 155 he’d be shredded and would dominate imo. Shame about his eating habits being so poor and with his losses hopefully a move to Bellator is in his future. Bye Fatselum enjoy the tacos after more losses.
Omg rofl Totally this ^^^ he should just eat well and stop doing what he's doing. See you later fatselium! Lol omg

He was eating pancakes between shadow boxing on the beach clips for the hype video for his last fight.

How much does a skull weigh?
It's around 5kg
The rest is made up of fat tissue, muscles.

In Gastelum case probably more fat than muscle.
