What separates a UFC Champ from the other contenders is simply OPPORTUNITY.

You don't need to be the best fighter in the division to be a UFC Champ.

You don't need to be the best fighter in the division to be a UFC Champ.

You do need to be the best to remain the champ for more than a few defences tho. That's what separates GOAT level champs like GSP, Fedor, Jones, Anderson, Aldo with just great fighters who happened to peak at the right time.
