Keeping a shake on your bedstand to drink when you wake up at night?

I just got the anabolic index and after reading about 50 pages it says that drinking a shake in the middle of the night is a great idea IF it doesnt affect your sleeping, as it would with many people.

So i was thinking of making a shake with water, and leaving it on my nightstand so that when i wake up in the middle of the night i could chug it down real quick and then fall back asleep. Or if i wake up at 5am to take a piss i could chug it down real quick and then go back to bed.

Does anyone here do that? Do you think the shake, made with water and not milk, would still be ok to drink after sitting there for 6 hours?

Thanks for the help guys.

My question is, why? It's splitting hairs and it won't help with REM sleep patterns.

^^^ I agree with Vedic on this one.Restful sleep should take priority over an extra serving of protein in the middle of the night.

If if keeps you from starting an "I can't gain weight" thread, go for it.

I can't remember where I read it, but someone in the biz suggested drinking a bunch of water before bed so your body naturally awakens (rather than by alarm) to urinate. Drink your shake then.

Might have been Lyle MacDonald, now that I think of it.

i agree with vedic, it will interfere your bodies ability to repair itself during sleep.

a whey shake made with water would stink like assholes after 6 hours.

buy BCAA pills, wake up and pop 4 during the night

Ew forget that. I drink water before bed and my internal clock wakes me up wayyy too early.

Im not sure how to take this since ive never started a thread like that. You must be confusing me for someone else, or maybe you didnt mean to sound like an asshole and im taking it wrong?

That is what David Barr suggests in the book for most people. I dont know if yellow bed sheets is worth it though.

From my understanding of the book it is to keep the amino acid levels in your blood up so you do not go into a catabolic state. I guess like an extension to your night time shake.
Maybe there will be more explanation once i finish the book.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean YOU, I meant people in general. I apologize for creating that confusion.

I think the important thing isn't so much about the steady supply of amino acids (although that may play a part in this) but rather about enabling people who have a hard time gaining weight to consume more calories.

Its ok, im in the process of trying to solve my IBS like symptoms so im a real cranky bitch:icon_chee

I've never prescribed to the "night-time, sustained, timed released protein before bed.

Everything about it goes against my school of thought.

You can't expect to sleep well with food in your stomach, it doesn't allow your body to fully rest. Many systems will be at work digesting and processing the load of shit in your gut.

I try to drink my shake about an hour or so before i go to bed. Otherwise i feel like i am going to throw shit up all over my girlfriend. Drinking the 16 ounces of water right before bed does have me waking up at 5-6am having to piss like a race horse though.

I keep baggies of protein powder with me at all times in case I start to feel protein deficient. I usually snort it so it hits the blood stream quicker.

since like last 2 years ive been waking up in the morning having to take a piss, i hate it, cant really get a full night of sleep like that
anyone knows what to do against that?

I don't do this myself, but what you could do is this:

Put protein powder in shaker cup (along with whatever else you wish to put is it) and a bottle of water. If you wake up and want to, drink it. If not, it's still good to drink later, nothing's spoiled. If your protein's not good enough to drink with water, get better protein.

You are a pussy. I have an IV line carrying whey straight into the blood 24/7.

I usually carry my protein around in a little tin, slightly moistened. That way during the day a can pinch a loaf to put between my gum and lip for sustained protein infusion.

This idea comes from bodybuilding trying to get protein during the time your body slows it ****bolism (sp?). So you can get a slow dose of protein as u sleep. I had a Boss once who use to do this, during the time i worked at Ballys Total fitness (now doing pro wrestling in OVW) big as a house. If you drink water like I do or as stated in the weight cutting plan under the FAQ you'll have no problem waking up to pee. Now the effectiveness of this to my understanding will vary from person to person. I see no harm in trying this out for two weeks and take measurements. Do it and post your results :icon_chee
